We are 2 couples from the UK and whilst visiting Sydney were looking for a place to celebrate New Years Eve. We were recommended the opera bar by a friend who had lived in Sydney.
We waited for the tickets to become available (in October)and booked straight away
The bar opens at 6.30 in the evening. I recommend queuing as if you get in early enough there are cabanas which are first come first served. If you are lucky enough to secure one, they are a great place to base yourself for the evening
The tickets include free canapés all night these are served regularly are plentiful and very lovely. There is live music, acrobats and entertainment all night. The bars are not too busy as the ticket sales are strictly controlled. ( in my opinion the uk would have sold 30% more tickets and crammed us all in). There was champagne available all night with a magnum of verve cliquot costing about £150 which is extremely reasonable. All the drinks were reasonably priced
The staff were all very professional polite and courteous
The atmosphere within the bar is one of relaxed happiness
There are fireworks at 9pm for the children and the main event at midnight. The view of the opera house and the harbour bridge is uninterrupted and an amazing spectacle to see
In short this is a fantastic way to bring in the New Year in a brilliant venue.
I can highly recommend
