“Average food, tired venue, good for lunch in a busy town though.”

We ate lunch on a Sunday Special and had mixed feeling about our meal and the venue.
Very strange sensation walking into this place as it is very tired, old and not so clean. Must have been a site in its heyday though!
When we arrived upstairs the place was near empty but quickly filled with Spanish families who looked like regulars which gave the place a nice atmosphere.
The Paella was not great nor a dry overpriced pork dish but the Tapas meatballs and prawns were good as of course was the Sangria.

Went on a weeknight when all Tapas dishes were $10 which was great value and the tapas were pretty nice. Had garlic prawns, eggplant, lamb rack all good.

Ordered one person chicken/chorizo paella to share with tapas. Unfortunately this was not of the same quality as the tapas - quite salty and oily and didn't have that nice crust on the bottom. Was a very large portion supposed to be for one person but the two of us couldn't finish but porbably wasn't nice enough for us to finish it anyway.

I think there should be something between Average and Very Good as that is how I would rate the Spanish Club Restaurant.
We tried the lunch menu and the food was tasty and fresh and the service ok, but the place is a little worn. The windows were badly in need of a clean and the men's toilets, well they should have been locked and a sign saying " do not enter" nailed to the door. Very off-putting. So the best we can do is "Good" and that is for the food.

The paella was a tad too salty. However, i liked the degree to which it was cooked, so you had plenty of that nice crunchy and chewy rice at the bottom of the dish. The servings were generous in terms of the paella. The tapas were mostly good. The chorizo was a bit too tough, and the sauce once again too salty.

The service was prompt and good.

We went to Turumbar at the Spanish Club Restaurant for casual dining on a Friday night. There was a good selection of Tapas and Spanish main courses, Spanish beer and a good wine list, all reasonably priced. The restaurant is on the first floor above the ground floor bar. The ambience is old world spanish with high ceilings and large timber beams. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was good and all round a good casual eating experience.
