The apartments are located quite close to the city center. Within walking distance to major supermarkets & all the eating places. There is a café as you walk into the reception, there is a café across the road & there is another around the corner.
Check-in went smoothly. There is a nice pool & BBQ area.
On entering our room, it was evident that there was recent work to repaint the room given the strong smell of paint fumes. It was so recent in fact that the enamel paint on the bathroom door was still tacky to the touch – it hadn’t hardened.
Our room was somewhat small & was very reminiscent of a 1970s Motel room. The walls were of that Besser brick type construction – in fact the whole building looked like it was constructed of Besser bricks. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the street, however the balcony was very small & due to the heat, it was impossible to sit there. Diagonally across the road a large multi-storey building was being demolished, which made it impossible to open the balcony door due to the noise. There was no wardrobe in the bedroom in which to put our clothes, but a rather small linen type closet near the entrance door – so we found ourselves virtually living out of our suitcase during our stay. Similarly there was no bedside drawers or bedside lamps in our bedroom. Instead there was a light on the wall immediately behind the bed, however the light switch was on the wall adjacent to the door as you walked into the bedroom. This meant that when you turned the light off to come to bed you were met with total darkness. The air-conditioner in the bedroom was located directly opposite the bed, so that it blew cold air directly at you, which was very uncomfortable. The overhead fan in the bedroom made an irritating squeaking sound so much so that it ha to be turned off to get a nights sleep.
The bed itself was vey uncomfortable – so uncomfortable that one night my wife slept on the lounge instead. The pillows were so soft that it was like sleeping directly on the bed mattress. We only had 3 pillows to share, so on one night one of us got two pillows to sleep on while the other only had one
The furniture needs updating, it looked like it was from a second hand store. The kitchen, dining area & bathroom need urgent & serious modernisation. The taps in the bathroom squeaked when you turned them on and off. The fridge froze things that were put in it. I turned the thermostat in the opposite direction, but this had no effect, things still froze if left in the fridge overnight – so I imagine that the thermostat needed replacing
There was no internal laundry or drier but instead there was a share laundry which cost $4 per wash & $4 for the drier. The machines only took $2 coins, no other combinations of coins
We were woken several times in the early morning with people yelling and swearing in the street – by the sounds of it, this was a regular event
To be frank, the daily rate was double what it should be. This really is BUDGET accommodation but charged at 1st class rates. We only stayed 4 days before we‘d had enough & checked out. My advice would be to stay somewhere else rather than here. Across the road is a bit more expensive but very very nice
