Very bad experience at end of stay which tarnished the whole experience.

Mistake at checkout meant that my credit card was billed twice. Attendant was apologetic and advised that extra funds were pending and would be returned. Didnt happen.

Contacted front desk days later and advised accordingly. They advised that form would be sent to bank to release funds. This occurred but error in form for wrong credit card details. Advised accordingly and no response.

Days go by and double billing remains.

Contact bank and advised that Daydream have both billed amounts as both amounts were cleared ie I paid twice.

Another email asking for refund and as usual days pass with no refund or communication from resort.

Checked out nearly 1 month ago and I’m out over $5K and soon charged interest on outstanding balance.

Trying to be understanding with impact of COVID-19 etc on tourism sector but surely this isn’t the benchmark for quality resorts in the Whitsundays.

Surely customer service should include correcting these types of issues.

Daydream Island is not what it used to be, came here in 2005 and had a great time, now it’s a ghost island. Everything is shut even the iconic pool bar, the whole south end of the island is shut, closed shops that obviously stopped trading long ago. Untrained staff ( a bartender who doesn’t know how to make a lemon-lime & bitters is not a bartender). The island was marketed as a relaxing place for couples and families, our stay was wrecked by a large group of people who bought their own bluetooth speaker to the pool area and proceeded to play ACDC so loud that all the other guests left the area, staff said nothing even when other guests complained. We will never come back which is a shame as this place used to be great.

We stayed as a large group and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staff were great, the resort was so clean, rooms comfortable. Pillows were a little flat but that’s my main critique. Food and cocktails were lovely. It did take a bit of time to get our orders but that’s to be expected with the numbers we had. Kids club didn’t go ahead because of lack of numbers. Not sure if a visit for a couple would be as much fun but the island is very peaceful.

We stayed a few weeks ago with our 2 and 4 year old. Very quiet so expected great experience but was very disappointed. Didn’t feel like a “special” holiday given the price of everything. We did a day trip to Hamilton island, and we wishes we holidayed there instead.

Good
- Suite was nice
- lobby areas and aquariums were nice (except the ugly fake plants everywhere)
- fish and ray feeding was well done

Bad
- THE FOOD. Menus looked like were from 1995. Food so generic and boring, and poorly executed. Everything was oily and tasteless. My husband asked for fresh vegetables one night and they didn’t have any in the whole restaurant.
Tired to order a Caesar salad which was swimming in Parmesan, sent it back only for it to return looking basically the same.
Food at buffet breakfast was low quality and coffee machine at breakfast often wasn’t working so we needed to walk to cafe and pay for a coffee. And many other examples that are too much to type.
My husband basically starving by the time we left as he didn’t eat for almost all the last day.
- Nothing for young kids to do. Pool was very cold so couldn’t swim, they were not allowed to do any water sports as too young. I like kangaroos but there were so many, and the grass was covered in kangaroo poop so couldn’t play there. And all the beaches were coral so couldn't take kids there either or risk cutting our feet.

Other notes
- staff were nice but doing bare minimum. I accidentally left my daughter’s treasured bunny with the pool towels and didn’t realise until the evening. It would have been in the laundry with the towels but staff told me it couldn’t be found. Hotel was at 15% capacity with hardly any kids about so I’m sure it was there but no care in helping me. And again, numerous other examples that are too many to type.
- take care with timing if hotel booking is transfers. I didn’t check and the options they booked took hours longer in travel time including waiting around than a private shuttle (which they didn’t offer)

Overall disappointing experience that I would never repeat. Very 3.5 stars at 5 star prices

Wonderful wtay with so many tours and activities on offer including jetskiing off the island. Really enjoyed the positivity and helpfulness of all staff and tour operators. Will definitely conaider coming back in the future with family and friends.
