We constructed our own tasting menu, ordering 6 dishes and sharing them between two. Each dish was superb - the bug tail sitting in a splodge of fragrant saffron mayonnaise, followed by the tenderest baby octopus in tomato sauce with basil, then the squid's ink tagliolini with soft calamari ribbons and a touch of chilli, to the quail with a subtle ginger sauce and spring onions - all were perfectly prepared and seasoned. We polished off a nice glass of Provençal rosé - delightfully crisp and light - and a can of Last Rites IPA - both perfect for lunchtime. We finished off with their delicious desserts, both, surprisingly, not overly sweet but the pear and sago cleansed the palate while the chocolate tart was rich and dark and set off beautifully by the orange zest paste. Good coffee too (well it's Italian so that's to be expected!) The service is efficient and personable - we even got to meet the chef who obviously takes pride in his creations. The tables are well spaced, the music track ran from warm jazz to 50s R&R, and there was no intrusive noise. My only complaint is the chairs - I find bentwoods uncomfortable and difficult in which to relax and sit back. Perhaps a seat cushion would help. All in all, an exceedingly pleasant experience.
