Had my Birthday lunch with 3 generations of my family recently and it was sublime. We ordered everything on the menu. There were 8 of us. Pickled vegetables, oysters and sashimi were standouts. Cocktails to die for. Kitchen paced our meals perfectly. Waitress very friendly and very new I believe. Hopefully she gets to taste the menu to tell their story up to the food standards. Will return for the half price oysters between 4 and 6 daily to have with the local beers and Sake. Highly recommended.

We just happen to stumble across Bar Wa - we were very short of time with a plane to catch but needing some nourishment - we walked in no booking no problems .
Sat by the bar and took a look at the menu all delicious but with very little time we asked the Staff .
The staff were amazing couple of recommendation a talk to the kitchen and in no time we were digging into an amazing dish .
We will be back this time with more time to savour more fab food and a drink or two .
Much thanks to the team at WA , 5 stars !

We had a wonderful evening at BWI. 5-6 dishes were shared between three of us, along with sake taster plates, and all of it DELICIOUS! The standout dish: miso braised mushrooms which were so aromatic, tender and bathed in an amazing sauce. I could happily eat a bowlful of it! The décor and atmosphere were just right and the place was really busy on a Friday night - for good reason. The wait staff were all excellent - super helpful, friendly and made very good recommendations. I wanted to take them all home with me. Needless to say, I will be back.

Having whiled away many an hour après skiing in izakayas in Hokkaido we've come to appreciate the low key saké/quality share plates approach to dining. On a recent visit to Hobart we had just 2 nights to dine and did not want that time wasted. I chose Bar Wa Izakaya and could not have been a) more surprised and b) pleased. A kind of self-congratulatory, self-satisfied type of pleased. Every dish we had was a beautifully presented quality offering. Oysters (oyster happy hour!!!) with 3 flavour dressings were a perfect starter followed by Hokkaido scallop tataki (yum), tuna tataki, shiro miso mushrooms...and asparagus...and ocean trout sashimi...perfect! The 'icing on the cake' was finding Umeshu on the drinks menu - plum wine - which we discovered on our last trip to Japan. Eating the plum doubles as a dessert which incidentally goes well with the black sesame ice cream. Perhaps they could open a branch in Sydney?
