Stayed 2 nights over a weekend with my partner & another couple. Was on level 14, room 1410. Room is quite quirky and designed nicely with neat & trendy decor. You'll either like the paintings in the rooms or not (every room has paintings from Blackman). I found some of them a bit eerie.
The beds and pillows are truly amazing! Very soft & fluffy.
Rooms are not big though. However, I think it depends which room the hotel assigns you. The other couple that stayed at the hotel got a room that was bigger & also had a king bed (room 1302). That was probably the most disappointing part of the stay as the room I stayed in had a double bed and not a king. Bathroom is also on the small side.
Location is good, about a 10 min taxi or tram ride to city. Also close by to chapel st.
My tip is try stay at hotel when they have specials. We booked about 2 months in advanced & got a 40% discount on wotif which included late check out at 12pm!

this has to be one of the best places to go on a romantic holiday. this hotel was absolutely stunning. beautiful artwork lined the hotel from every which way and the patisserie downstairs served up a delicious sausage roll.

Room Tip: we were on the ninth floor and we had a nice view

Our stay at Art-series The Blackman in Melbourne over Christmas was an extremely positive experience. It is a hotel with that extra touch of quality, good taste and personal service besides very good comfort, which really makes you enjoy your stay. The neat artistic design in details and e.g. the access to interesting books in the rooms are something we certainly will remember and which are rare in our experience.
If we return to Melbourne in the future, The Blackman will be our first choice.

We chose the Blackman on the strength of the reviews on tripadvisor for our first trip to Melbourne and were certainly not disappointed. From the friendly and helpful staff to the fabulous artwork by Charles Blackman on display everywhere not to mention the comfortable beds and well designed suites we were absolutely delighted with our three night stay. Our basic level suite had two balconies overlooking Albert Park and the sea beyond. We tried both the ground floor French bistro for breakfast and the Italian restaurant for dinner and enjoyed both meals. The hotel is very convenient for the trams to the CBD and St Kilda. My only disappointment was not being able to purchase Charles Blackman prints as a momento of the stay but I understand this is beyond the control of the hotel management.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view on 14th floor or above

I spent 7 days at the Blackman and decided to get a room with a balcony which is advisable if you're staying longer than 3 days (just for the extra space).

First off, out of the 3 blackman hotels in Melbourne, this is situated in the most quiet area. The other two, while not far off, are located in slightly more vibrant areas. So if you're in the market for some peace and quiet, this is your hotel.

Secondly, as most people have said - the bed is briiliant and extremely comfy. Having said that, I'm a very light sleeper and the odd car/motorcycle speeding by at the wee hours of the morning woke me up.

The room came equiped with a tiny kitchenette space with some welcome amenities. The bathroom was basic (but clean) and as people have also previously commented, it isn't the most private (noisewise). The TV is a little far away from the bed so you need to have decent eyesight.

The staff were always polite and ready to help. They even lent me the use of their Ipad (in the reception area) so that i could make some bookings.

If I had to be critical, i wish wifi in the hotel was free (esp in this day and age) and parking in the hotel was expensive too.

Nonetheless, a good hotel located just outside of town (10-15 minute tram ride away) and I would recommend.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor if you want to avoid traffic noise.
