Sport has been something that runs through any Australian's blood. We are a sporting country and to see a museum showing the best of Australian sporting in numerous national and international events and the in depth history of sport in Australia is educational and fun.

Interesting memorabilia and history of sports achievements as well as interactive displays. Suggest visit in conjunction with a tour of the MCG

This Sports Museum, situated at the MCG., is a must see for any sports enthusiast. The displays are high class and the interactive areas are fun for the young ones. The sheer history in the area is staggering and all major sports are included. Main areas are obviously linked to the stadium and include AFL and Cricket. Entry is well priced and the hours are basically 10 - 5 pm. Staff are very obliging and make you very welcome. Another plus is you can come and go which allows you to have a drink, food and coffee at the convenient cafe in the same area. A good idea is to combine the MCG Tour in your daily plan (75 minutes) . Highly recommended.

We went to the museum after a guided tour of the stadium. The museum is probably more attractive and absorbing if you are into Australian sport. There are sections devoted to cricket and AFL but also good sections on Olympics, horse racing and a range of other sports. If you view the museum you will probably need an hour minimum to do it justice. A considerable amount of reading is necessary and it can become tiring so if time is limited then try and be selective.

We did a tour around the MCG with a great guide and visited the long room. It was extremely interesting and informative but the best was still to come. Our ticket included a visit to the 'National Sports Museum', little did we know what lay in store. You could spend a whole day here looking at the exhibits and reading all the information. The absolute highlight was in the cricket section, we aren't cricket fans but we met and spoke to Wally, one of the MCG members who spend time talking to visitors about the ground, museum and life in general. We sat with Wally for over an hour and it was one of the best hours spent on the holiday. We could have listened to him all day, such an interesting character. I'm sure he makes a lot of peoples holiday just by chatting and being so informative and friendly. The museum is the biggest sports museum I've ever seen it is an absolute must do when in Melbourne.
