Stayed 4 nights in early March. Whilst the entrance to the hotel fronts Collins Street, the reception is actually on an upper level accessed by the elevator. Check-in/check-out very efficient. We were upgraded to an Executive Queen bed room which was quite large and very clean. Bed comfortable. Bathroom adequate although as we have struck on numerous occasions with Novotel hotels the shower was located in the bathtub. Shower pressure though was very good. Safe in the room.
Buffet breakfast - excellent selection, albeit on the expensive side. Breakfast was quite packed on the Sunday morning but staff had prepared by putting out extra seating which showed some initiative.
The negatives - as with most Accor hotels we have struck, internet access is expensive. There were 2 free desktop computers for the use of guests but these were regularly occupied.
There are also positives and negatives associated with the hotel's location. The positive is that it only a 5 to10 minute walk from most of the major shops and tourist attractions. The negative is that if catching a taxi to the hotel you can often spend a lot of time watching the meter tick over as the taxi tries to navigate up the single lane of traffic in Collins Street. The second negative, albeit small, associated with the location is that the hotel's rooms seem to form a square around the shopping atrium of the Australia on Collins shopping centre...Stayed 4 nights in early March. The second negative, albeit small, associated with the location is that the hotel's rooms seem to form a square around the shopping atrium of the Australia on Collins shopping centre (located next door to the hotel's entrance), such that most of the rooms look out into the atrium and downdown onto the shops rather than outside. Therefore you have no idea of what the weather is like until you get down to the reception area and can look outside.
Nothwithstanding the above would stay here again.More
