It's pretty simple. If you want Sichuan food in Melbourne you go here. There are other choices but the little upstairs room down corrs lane cannot be beaten. Kung po chicken, ma po tofu and cumin coated pork ribs are the must haves.

I visit one new Sichuan restaurant every week in my quest to find the best Kung Pao chicken in the city. I often re-visit to check if their dish at least is consistent or has improved or degraded.

Sichuan house has been my standard reference for consistently good Kung Pao over the years.

This it is the one for chilli lovers! Half way through I am pleasantly streaming and have to move the chillies aside to focus through the tears on the chicken and peanuts.

One tip - have three napkins ready - one for the mouth, one for the nose and one for the eyes. Don't mix them up!

The Kung Pao also has a good fresh hit of Sichuan pepper with crunchy peanuts and good sweet and sour balance. The ratio of chicken to peanuts is a bit too skewed towards the peanuts so about 20% less peanuts will be ideal.

Another tip - try their Pawpaw milk to help reduce some of the burning sensation.

Drink and lunch dish good value at around $13 . Go at 12 to get a good seat - can fill up fast from 12:30.

Try Sichuan House as your reference for great Kung Pao. Definitely one of the best in the city.

Have been to this place many times with friends and family and it has been consistently great! My Chinese friend from chengdu (capital of Sichuan)recommended this place to me years ago and for good reason; according to sichuanese people it is the most authentic, the head chef is also from chengdu. serving portions are huge, worth coming in a bigger group to try out different dishes. everything is delicious and spicy and tasty! service is quick and efficient. note that this place is very busy, book ahead to secure a spot otherwise you'll have to be queuing for a while. If you want to eat at an authentic Sichuan restaurant, this is by far the best one in Melbourne to go to! You won't be disappointed!

I am in love with this place. The food is right out of China, if you are in Melbourne GO!.

It is so good you may have to line up, but do...it is worth the wait. I would go there every week if I could.

Spicy delightful tastes magnificent food... Did I mention you should GO! Oh and order yourself a large bottle of Chinese beer and you will be set.

A really busy place hiding down Corse Lane. I went there with colleagues, I was recommended the cumin ribs and eggplant with fish sauce, they were to die for, sooooo good! We also had green beans and kung po chicken (v spicy). Great food, you've got go there !
