...and have decided you only live once, this is it.

Be prepared for an experience and go without any preconceptions of what to expect.

It is so good that it may turn your mind to the moral dilemma of how such cost for quality is reconciled against those in our world doing it tough, but only after it has taken your taste buds on a journey of discovery not often trod.

Table service seriously good. Wine matching superb. Food amazing.

TIP : go for the degustation menu nights, and make sure you at least have the standard wine matching with it. Don't expect them to change - you are there for their brilliance in the art of food and wine.

Friday night, my husband and i treated ourselves to Jacksons. We have heard a lot of good comments so we thought 'why not'. For starters my husband had the market fish, snapper, which i believe from his comments and my little taste was flaky and delicious. i decided on the steak tartare, which was interesting, i can not fault the texture, the taste was a bit hard to come at, but with the delicious sides and the egg on top with the shavings of pear, my goodness, i could not complain. Main meal, i had the beef cheeks - WOW! melt in your mouth. Hubby had the steak, medium rare, tender with an interesting sauce which really made it pop! We shared a side dish of green beans and broccoli, which complimented our mains. We were becoming full, but what the hell.. ordered for dessert the "chocoloate, chocolate, chocolate" OH MY GOD - chocolate crackle, ganache, mousse, mini cakes, sounds like heaps, but we shared and it was chocolate heaven! for drinks, i enjoyed a class of NZ champagne, fantastic, hubby enjoyed a pilsner and we shared a nice white wine with our mains. A little pricer than some other restaurants we have been too, but seriously can not complain. We will come again to check out the "dego" for sure.

We were fortunate enough to have Easter Saturday night in the quiet but attentive hands of Phillip. The degustation menu was superb, matched with our own selection of wines. The food was a stand out! Each course crafted and displayed beautifully and the tastes, sensational. Nothing was a trouble. One of our table had a birthday and was pleasantly surprised with a chocolate Happy Birthday on her plate. 4 hours later we left completely sated and planning our next trip to Jackson's!

We came into the restaurant for dinner on a Monday to experience the degustation menu with some very good friends of ours. Since they are vegetarian, my husband rang 2 weeks earlier to confirm that you had a vegetarian option and asked that it be provided on the night.
When we arrived the menus were all for the standard degustation and when we enquired with the waiter he mentioned that “he had heard a rumour that a vegetarian degustation menu was required”... we ask if we could see it.
We discussed our options for selection and the waiter disappeared. We were left not knowing if he had taken our order or not. So we checked with the manager and provided our choices again.
The night went from bad to worse ...
After 2 hours we only had the Amuse Bouche and the first 2 courses and my husband spoke to the manager on duty pointing out the problem. As a result we were very hungry, so filled up on bread since that was the only option. The dishes took forever to arrive. By the time the latter part of the menu was being served it got too late and we asked to cancel the cheese course. To try to make up for the delay in meals, they then proceeded to bring us an extra dessert course! Overall the timing was so bad that it spoiled the whole dining experience....
We also ordered 3 bottles of wines to go with our meal (partly to fact the meals took so long). Again the waiter failed to keep our glasses full and the carafe was too far away for us to serve ourselves. When we finally flagged him down, we were onto desserts (not ideal). On top of that, we asked him to leave the carafe on the table, which he didn’t seem pleased about, so he emptied the remaining wine into our glasses....
Jacksons has been my favourite restaurant for many years and I have continually recommended it to friends and work colleagues – it’s consistent and the food and experience has always been very good. This night was a real disappointment – the service was poor, our waiter seemed in another world and the food service was very slow. Therefore in regards to value it has been a very expensive dinner ($860 worth for 4 Pax) and disappointing experience to go through to demonstrate that this restaurant has dropped in standard??

Been there a number of times, generally on special occasions - awesome stuff. Probably had the most amazing dish of my culinary experience there - this unbelievable blue cheese suffle.
