“Good Auckland base”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

2 stays in March / April 2012. Very efficient pick-up from the airport. Check-in on the first stay was chaotic (we had reserved club rooms and I think that they wanted to check us in in the rooms but it didn't seem anyone had talked to the reception staff) - it worked better second time around.
Rooms were spacious but bathrooms are getting a bit dated. The pool and gym are very good.
Dinner at Barolo was not cheap but well cooked and fair value.
Breakfast in the Club lounge was good - fresh fruit and a limited cooked offering that was fine.
There appeared to be consistent difficulties with communication between departments over things such as check-out times and return airport transfers but issues were quickly resolved - it would be nice not to have to though.
Overall a good base for short stays in Auckland. Staff all very friendly and helpful

Room Tip: The Park Suites are good value if on a promotional rate

We stayed three nights at the Langham Auckland. This is a hotel that gives you large, clean rooms and adds in excellent, friendly service. We also enjoyed the free shuttle to and from the harbour front. The one complaint was that the hotel did not offer complimentary Internet.
We were quoted over $75 a day. We skipped this and went to the Internet cafes or used the free wireless service at restaurants and cafes within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. The Langham is about a 20 minute or so pleasant walk through a pretty park to the very interesting, Auckland Museum. The Langham is 30 seconds away from the Karangahape Road, a trendy street with some nice restaurants, shops, etc.

The waterfront area in Auckland is where you catch ferry boats out to outlying islands. We took one of these to Devonport, a neat little town with a big hill to see the skyline. There are lots of restaurants here and some scenic walks along the water. There is a naval museum which we did not have time to see. If we had spent another day or two here we would have taken the ferry to Waiheke Island, which is reputed to be much more spectacular.

The downtown area near the harbor was fine. Shopping is good here. We thought the waterfront area was going to be a little quainter than it is. While we preferred Sydney, Australia to Auckland, Auckland has a lot going for it. The people are very friendly and the city downtown is very clean.
Don't miss the Auckland Museum, it was very educational, particularly regarding the Maori culture.

Room Tip: Do take advantage of the Langham's free shuttle!

stayed here the night of our wedding in one of their suites. Wonderful service when we came in, excellent service in the morning and all the staff we extremely helpful.

Breakfast in the top floor restaurant was fantastic.

The room was massive, the bed was probably the most comfortable bed ive ever slept in. Seriously. Bathroom was a touch on the small side, but it had a bath and a shower.

Great place to spend a wedding night

We've stayed many times at the Langham and have tried a few other 5 star hotels in Auckland also, but the Langham is the one we always return to! It doesn't matter what room type you have, they are all well appointed and immaculate. The beds are the best ever! Staff are super welcoming and efficient, more so now than ever before, so I think management have had a real push on staff friendliness and efficiency, its very noticeable and makes you feel very welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The hotel lobby and winebar area are very sumptuous with gorgeous chandeliers, and Barolo Restaurant is even more so with heavy brocade fabrics, perfect for a fine dining experience with impeccable service. Love the spa and pool area too.
