So much potential, but so little atmosphere. Too many touristy/Asian stores. The good stores keep closing.

Really busy during both day and night and with beggars overflowing as they can be very disturbing and pushy when asking for a spare gold coin. Plenty of high-end shops but also filled with restaurants and cafe that do charge a premium price due to the location and the buzz around the area. Recommend a walk during the day where it's not too busy as it can be very pretty and elegant but definitely not during the night as it can be very rowdy with the number of drunkards.

If you are staying in Auckland and really need to buy something then Queen St area will be the place to go. Otherwise I would avoid the area. It is dirty with a large number of empty shops.

Even the Town Hall and cinema complex looked dirty and uninviting.

At the "K Road" end I didn't feel entirely safe walking alone. I had read the hotel guide book promising a vibrant shopping and dining experience. I feel bad being so critical of someone's home town but the guide book is just not true.

You can find all what you need here. You can buy what you need and you can eat, drink or just enjoy the vibe. Would recommend visiting it for gift shopping after having a walk down Quay street. There is lots of food outlets as well to help you recharge if you are a hardcore shopper.

Panhandler and tramps seem to occupy the high ground outside every ATM and shops. This is in high contrast to the absolute absence of any Police or private security. The classic was a cluster of beggars smoking ice outside The Art Gallery.
