We visit this Mexico restaurant quite often, and although we have been to a few other Mexico's around Auckland, this one is our favourite. We love the food, especially the Tacos and Quesadillas... Our favs being anything with pork or prawns! The place has also been decked out like its something festive from the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. We really enjoyed the food, the service and also the ambience. The service does suffer during peak times, but the food more than makes up for it and the staff are pretty down to earth...

At 6pm on a Friday night Mexico was quiet, but obviously going to get busy. On arrival we asked if we could eat relatively quickly as we were on our way to a show. 15 minutes later we went to the counter and broke up the chatting group of table staff and asked if we could order. 5 minutes later a waiter arrived and took the order. A few minutes later she came back to say the beer I had ordered from the menu (Cartel) was not available at this branch of the chain. (Then why is it on the menu??) We ordered guacamole and chips as a starter along with the mains at the same time. Another 5 minutes passed and the couple who had come in after us and ordered received their guacamole (ours??) and drinks. We asked again. Then the guacamole, beer and mains all arrived at once. While the food was tasty, the surroundings pleasant, and the place buzzing, the service was, for us, intermittent and inaccurate. There were many apologies along the way, but when a restaurant like this is basically very quiet service could, and should, have been more efficient. We would probably eat there again, but with lower service expectations in future.

Had to wait to be seated, to be served, for our drinks and over half an hour for food (after drinks had come which were ordered same time). People at table next to us had to send a dish back 3 times for being incorrect.

This restaurant has such a nice atmosphere. The interior is very nice and thematic. The food was very good (chicken chimichanga!) as well as their drinks. Highly recommend the mango margarita. Food was a little expensive, but it is New Zealand so everything is expensive.

On arriving at the restaurant, we were immediately told that if we chose to dine here we'd need to leave in an hour as there were other bookings. Not a great welcome. When I was asking about the menu (as it wasn't very descriptive and didn't want anything fried), I was questioned "do you like to eat anything?" !! We were pleased to learn they had free snacks and enjoyed the guacamole and corn starters.

The cauliflower, mint and chorizo quesadilla was shockingly disappointing and flavourless. There were literally 3 tiny dots of chorizo in the entire quesadilla that probably equalled the size of a skittle placed together. There was 1 small piece of mint. I did not see or taste any roasted cauliflower. It was difficult to find a waiter as the restaurant was busy and we were told to eat fast, so I ate most of the tortilla, but later on I told them they missed the ingredients and was told they blend it all up and it wasn't distributed evenly (really?). This menu item needs serious revamping; why would ingredients be blended and absent like baby food? Since I needed something nutritious with substance, they redeemed themselves with the green bean salad.

The atmosphere was great and the prices weren't too bad. Loved the free snacks.
