Stayed for work. Great.customer service on checking in, really good meal again with great room service.
Why the 2 star rating, well firstly room was clean, but coffee cups were dirty. The noise from outside was terrible, and did not make for a good night's sleep. And floor tiles in bathroom were extremely slippery with a little moisture on them, to the point of me falling heavily.

Well located for a stroll around Gisborne. Parking is good. Free Wi-Fi. Corridors are long but this is primarily due to the way th ehotel is constructed around the central courtyard.
Staff and friendly. Rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast in the restaurant is very adequate and good value. Will stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the River side are quieter

We arrived here in the midst of two Govt ministers vehicles.
The rooms are spacious warm, well appointed and clean.
The establishment has a bar and a restaurant. The food was excellent.
Probably the best Beef Wellington I've ever had.

THE GOOD:
My wife and I and another couple stayed at this hotel mid-June. The location of the Hotel is well placed and central to most things-to-do in Gisborne. Get free parking but make sure you know how to park and reverse as the parking area is quite compact and not lots of space for maneuvers.

Both the rooms were quite spacious and well planned. We overlooked the river and that was a pleasant and relaxing view.

THE BAD:
The service rendered in the rooms were not up to standard for a Hotel of this nature.
A dirty face cloth was left in our room when it was cleaned before.
We stayed for 2 nights and not the towels or face cloths were replaced as we expected it to be.
Coffee cups and used spoon was just moved nicely in place without cleaning it.
There are no dish cloths available to wash own cups after use which means a face cloth had to be used.
Beds were made up halfheartedly
No extra bedding in room for cold winter night. There were some extra pillows
Went for breakfast the one morning and elected the buffet breakfast which at best was very average. Maybe their A-la-cart breakfast menu items will be better but will not recommend the buffet at $22 each.

Will not book here again unless I cannot find accommodation at our usual spots.

Stayed here one night, pleasant reception area and staff but no music at all. Hallways lack any art and are cavernous with bland color scheme. The layout lends itself to having some 'markers' so you remember where you are. Artwork and a warmer cookout scheme should have helped a lot. The rooms follow the theme of bland and lifeless with no artwork, uninspiring furniture, boring carpet and walls and in my case a very weak shower that made having a shower an unpleasant experience. The car park used by guests is also poky. Be sure to watch out for the metal beams in the car park, easy to miss and hit. Best thing about the Emerald Hotel is the location, unimpressive in every other respect. Two stars.
