We had booked by phone in advance from Australia as part of a driving trip in the North Island. The booking process was easy and helpful. We were to stay only for one night but while we were there, weather conditions and road closures turned that into 3 nights. Reception was very helpful and friendly with the extension and in keeping us up to date with road conditions via information from logging truck drivers who stayed at the motel as well. We had a superior king studio which was spacious, clean and in good condition with all the expected facilities. The room was serviced daily.
The motel is in a good location within easy walking distance to the business district and a pleasant walkway along Waikanie Beach, around the port area and along the river. As we were stuck there for a couple of days we made good use of that and the lookout above the port as well as some local sights when weather permitted.
The motel has a restaurant on site and it is good value and well run.
The motel is on a road leading to the port where ships are loaded with logs for export. There is some noise from the trucks servicing the wharf but it is OK. If it bothers you at night, just close the windows facing the road. We had no major issues with sleeping.
Only adverse comment would be that managers need to check showers in their rooms. The shower head and tap both leaked and it was difficult to adjust temperature and pressure. We find this in a lot of places we stay. However, we would definitely stay here again.
