Water Drop cafe is located on the ground floor of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple on Riccarton Road. The irony is that, while the building itself (a rather monolithic structure compared to its surrounds) is almost impossible to miss, I'd guess many people don't actually notice the cafe.

Since our first visit in late 2016, we've returned on two other occasions during weekends. Parking is plentiful and the atmosphere once inside is pleasant. Vegans will feel especially welcome with the wide range of plant-based dishes on offer.

The food is 'clean', fresh and flavoursome. There's an excellent selection of small savoury items (we personally like the dumplings and the bao), but it's also possible to have a full meal. We've also enjoyed some of the cakes/slices, though the coffee is only adequate.

Overall, a great place for warm, comforting, food that makes you feel good.

Will never be coming to this cafe.. your staff are very rude.. mother's if your child is beast feeding they ask yu to feed them in the toilet... I hope you make your staff eat in there... disgusting excuse for a vegetarian vegan cafe when they do not allow children to drink the milk intended for them...

We were warmly welcomed and provided with a good sized selection of vegetarian/vegan options. The four of us chose different dishes and were all happy with what arrived. There were very tasty looking slices on display but we were too full to have anything more.
There's a relaxed and comfortable ambience. Will be returning soon.

I really liked this place. We received a friendly welcome into a warm and fragrant cafe. The service was prompt. Good-sized servings of delicious Asian-inspired vegetarian/vegan food.
The only suggestion I would make is to provided a brief description/small photo of the menu options (where is is not obvious) - we didn't have much of an idea what we had ordered, even though it turned out to be delicious!
Even if you are not Buddhist, the gallery/gift shop is also well worth a visit - a serene and pleasant environment.
