It has still got the damn heavy front door, dark decor including the loos, but the bright keen staff and interesting food are the focus, Large open area but tables & booths don't make it feel that way, tucked in a booth its very cosy. The outdoor enclosed balcony will be buzzing come the warmer weather. Serving American style large pizzas along side a variety of other dishes, it has both family and adult appeal. Surprised at how busy on a Monday night, realised school holiday groups add to the mix. Ordered the carpaccio which was salmon, very tasty and enjoyed the glass jar and lid version of tiramisu. Musicians were setting up, but not to start till later and wee were early diners, the piped music had been vibing away with an eclectic mix, just like the music poster collection decorating the walls. The pizza was very tasty, with a firm but enjoyable base - the test of a good pizza chef. All of our choices were slightly high on the salt taste, but not excessive - a tactic to drive drinks sales maybe ??? as they were being regularly offered. Overall, impressed, it was busy and happy, a pinball machine providing entertainment for the teenages. Look forward to an evening in the setting sun, over another pizza.

I had great hope for this place as had read dive bar/ rock/cool in the run up to it opening. It has cool decor but seems to have missed the mark musically and has ended up as a family/ birthday party themed restaurant but with no large tables. There is no lighting on the stage..this would enhance the band and the posters in that corner as a lot have a luminous quality. A dance area could be good too. Already the live music has dropped to open mic/ karoke/ cover bands. With some response to feedback ( see other reviews) and some guidance it could change its image to something I think was the original idea instead of just being another " kid on the block" or pizza place. Nice chicken burger tho.

The decor and layout was good. And I like it that there was a band. Staff seemed friendly (and easy on the eye), even when we played a few good nature pranks on them. Only real complaints was that I found the pizza nothing to celebrate, and for a Friday night it seemed strangely empty.

Popped in here for a Friday after work drink as we thought it might have a relaxed bar scene, it doesn't. It has a restaurant layout with limited learners, average tap beer list, doesn't serve pints and it had a lack-lustre atmosphere for a Friday as most tables were reserved and therefore empty. Not what I'd hopped or expected. Essentially this place is a pizza restaurant not a drink parlour.

Hi Milly,
Thanks for coming in and passing on your feed back. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the 20 quality beers we have available and the 4 beer serving options(330ml, 380ml and 2 jug sizes). These sizes seem to be hugely popular and we will take on board you comments.
I'm surprised to see your comment regarding limited leaners. By my count we have 80 high seating options available indoors with more outdoors around our fire pits and heaters. They are in high demand hence the reserved signs. By all means call ahead and we can hold one for you.
Rockstar is really about fun. Whether you want to hangout and have a drink after work, eat Christchurch's best pizza, listen to live bands later in the evening. Its all about fun.

We went on a Tuesday night for a birthday dinner. We had booked the table originally for 10 but then changed it prior to 12 which we had in writing. We were seated in a booth which was so small for that group size, we had a pregnant lady trying to squeeze in and a lady with a hip replacement. We spoke to the staff several times about potentially moving us which they wouldnt. After a few attempts at asking they finally said they would move some tables together so we could sit comfortably but it felt they were really put out by that.
When we were served by the lady, her tone was very patronizing and was already on the back foot with us. We ordered drinks and several times we had to get up to find them ourselves due to the staff chatting behind the bar.
Once the food came we were deeply disappointed. The base of the pizza was nice, but there wasn't many toppings, all tasted the same on a half and half pizza and was cold. The pregnant girl couldn't eat her pizza as it was so cold with the meat and prawns on top.
Overall the food was average, service was poor - the only thing that made it worth while was the guy singing live and the decor. Other than that I wont be back.
