Found Hocken Library while travelling past - had previously used the online website of Hocken Library so it was a must to visit. Absolutely a great place for family history research and history research for Otago Area. The staff were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable on use of the database systems. Thankyou.

This is a great library for old-school information on the local area and attractions. It is a red only library and the staff are very strict with protocol, however they are always more than happy to help out.

An experienced researcher, I visited The Hocken for the first time last month. I was impressed.

Unlike some archives, the desk and research staff were friendly and welcoming, although some of the younger research staff did not listen very well. I realise they do not want to hear every detail of every story but they do need to listen enough to narrow down search options and not replicate work already done.

A useful, but basic, tearoom on site, good loos and good access to research facilities.

I will be back.
