Simply the most beautiful gardens offering various bbq areas, pergola seating areas, a large private spa pool, fantastic sauna for up to four people laying down. The smell of the gardens was so welcoming just like the hosts, Mary and Pat. I would recommend staying here over and above any where else as there is so much to do in the area and the breakfasts are unbelievable - three and four courses. Needless to say I had difficulty finishing mine.

I was greeted with a bubbly wine and a bubbly host and some home-made scones upon my arrival and felt that I had made a instant friend with Mary. The rooms are so opulent I felt like a queen. Looking forward to my next stay, next year

Room Tip: Depends on whether you are a family, lovers or single. All rooms are awesome

We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of New Zealand

The room we had was very nice and everything had been thought through including some basic cooking facilities, heating (nice underfloor heating in the bathroom) and television. From that perspective it was a big positive.

The location is excellent on the Otago peninsula so all the walks and wildlife are easily accessible. It’s a bit of a hike into town but otherwise a good location. The property is on a side street so nice and quiet but there are no views of the water – admittedly none are promised but now that I know the area I would look for somewhere with views.

The owner is incredibly friendly and accommodating but a little scatterbrained. Breakfasts were a little disorganized (and we were the only guests).

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend away staying at McCauley Glen Boutique Bed & Breakfast. It was first class from when we arrived with piping hot scones just out of the oven awaiting us. The room was superb with great comfortable beds, well set out with everything one would want or need. The breakfast can only be described as far exceeding any expectations, a three course extravaganza of “heavenly delights” all home made by the hosts Mary and Patrick. The location at Portobello is quite with beautiful gardens and an abundance of bird life. A short walk to the sea shore with a great little pub/restaurant on the corner.
This is my first five stars on trip adviser……You deserve it Mary and Patrick.

Room Tip: There both good

Outstanding experience with great beds and food. Suggest that anyone staying try the home made apricot jam (If we didnt eat it all)
Mary and Pat the owners also made some great suggestions as to activities on the peninsula which turned up thrumps.

A truly great B and B.

Thanks

We stayed two nights at McAuley Glen and enjoyed Mary and Pat's hospitality. I wish we could have stayed longer! The B&B and the entire Otago Peninsula was a highlight of our two week trip. We booked last minute and despite them not expecting anyone for the weekend, Mary greeted us warmly on arrival, gave us some of her lovely scones and warm tea, and had the room all ready for us. The breakfasts were as amazing as everyone says. It's worth staying at this B&B for the food alone and lovely company alone. The Lauralie suite was perfect for our family as it allowed us to put our 1 year old to sleep in the second room while we could still relax in our room. The rooms are very well appointed - the main room has a large bed, a two seater sofa, a little bistro table and small kitchenette area with plates, etc, and a lovely washroom (with heated floors). All the little details make it easy to stay organized and avoid the clutter, there are luggage holders, storage space, hooks for your jackets, etc that were not there in most of our other accommodations. The Otago Peninsula is stunningly beautiful and Dunedin is a charming city. Mary was wonderful with our 1 year old, and even played with her while we ate breakfast and was not bothered at all with her getting into things in her home.

Room Tip: Lauralie for a family
