As many reviews indicated and it is very true, the breakfast is a meal in itself and can really last you through to dinner ! I enjoyed Mary's lovely scones and her helpful tips on cooking! Love the bacon and the other dishes she prepared. The Lauralie suite was a 2 bedroom and even though there was one heating unit, it was enough heating for the rooms in winter ( bearing in mind I am from the tropical heat of SE Asia) . Beds were very comfortable and warm with the electric blankets. I like the fact that Mary preferred guests to take shoes off in the rooms as that assured me the rooms were very clean and my son can just roll around. Wi fi was complimentary and good connection throughout our stay. The drive there is quite an adventure and my husband enjoyed the very curvy roads just by the sea to the Otago peninsula . Take Patrick's advice on the alternative scenic routes as it is definitely amazing! A less than 5 min walk to the local hotel pub for dinners was definitely very convenient! It was lovely to meet Mary's family as we had dinner one night at their place.

Room Tip: The Lauralie suite is below the dining and living area of the hosts, you will hear some light footst...

We stayed for three nights in the comfortably furnished, pleasantly decorated and very spacious Ambrosia Suite during a driving tour of New Zealand. McAuley Glen is set in luxuriant gardens at the harbour of Portobello on the Otago Peninsula. It is an ideal location, near to Dunedin but in a tranquil setting. It is a short drive to the nearby albatross colony and along the peninsula's high road with its magnificent views, the historic Larnach Castle. Mary and Patrick are extremely friendly and helpful hosts full of local advice and information and they couldn't do enough for us (Mary even took care of our laundry). Breakfasts are sumptuous with fresh juices, a different starter each day, muesli, fresh fruit, yoghurt, then followed by a cooked breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can certainly recommend this great bed & breakfast.

Room Tip: There are just two high quality suites at McAuley Glen. The Ambrosia Suite in which we stayed is for...

We stayed at McAuley Glen B&B for a night on our honeymoon. Was a great place to stay, the hosts are very friendly, the room was beautiful, very clean, tidy & comfortable with ensuite and private outdoor seating area. The outdoor fireplace & spa pool were great too! Delicious breakfast, love the pancakes and homemade bread! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay somewhere special.

We stayed with Mary and Patrick on the beginning of March 2015; we enjoyed the beauty of the Otago peninsula, the seals, penguïns and albatrosses, but especially we were amazed by the hospitality, the helpfulness and the suggestions given by Mary and Patrick.
We won't say anything about the breakfast only that we increased weight because we could not stop eating the delicious food handmade by Mary.

The gardens are beautiful and the accommodations are comfortable, spacious and welcoming but what stands out are the generous and delicious breakfasts. Mary and Patrick are friendly and helpful and have lots of suggestions for activities in the area. There are 2 good restaurants within walking distance. We will always remember our visit to Penguin Place, which is about 15 minutes from the B and B. Jim and Wendy, Toronto, Canada
