McAuley Glen Boutique Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #7 of 62 Dunedin B&B and Inns

Myself and boyfriend both work in a 6 star hotel in HKG, I have to say, we are picky people! When we arrived McAuley Glen B&B, a bit hidden but close to what we need to see, easy and handy.
Mary greeted us with a big smile, waving to us from far, her warmth just gave me so much energy after my 3 hours drive. After we settled down in room, cosy, quiet, comfortable bed, heated bathroom floor, peaceful envioirnmnent, so much privacy in our own castle, she served us with homemade goodies, drinks, introduced us to her friends....... organised our dinner in one of the local restaurants. We had a good night sleep.
The next morning when we went to Mary & Pat's dining room for breakfast, I thought I was in a 6 star restaurant with open view, bright, delightful! The pancakes she made for us is the best, followed by homemade bread & jam, angus beef ball, eggs, bacon, mushroom, tomotes fresh fruit salad, cereal, fresh organe juice etc .... not only the food I can taste, I can feel Mary's passion in her B&B. The next day breakfast was different, equally good; I can go on but do not want to bore you!
Mary gave us advise to two beaches and we found what we want to see! Seals! Mary assisted us to organise the tour, all in all, everything is in good order. I highly recommended you to pay Mary and Pat a visit if you go to Dunedin!

Room Tip: They have a king bed room (when we stayed) and another room is more for family king bed room connect...

McAuley Glen Boutique is a lovely place to stay in the Otago peninsula close to all the sea life attractions (albatrosses, blue penguin colony, seals) and tracks. Mary and Patrick were very welcoming, helped with the bookings of trips (in our case: sea life boat trip) and took their time to chat and give useful recommendations on how to spend the holiday. We very much enjoyed the beautiful garden and even more so the extraordinary breakfast! We've had a lot of luck with our B & Bs on this trip, but we've never had such a wonderful breakfast! :)

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was brilliant. The location at Portobello on the Otago peninsula is perfect if you like being a bit more remote and if you like to walk and see lots of wildlife.
There is also a variety of trips seeing wildlife and the peninsula. The breakfast is excellent and can set you up for the whole day. Mary and Patrick are the perfect hosts and they will give you lots of info. There are 2 places to eat in Portobello both of which serve great food and are only five minutes walk away. Don't miss the seals at Sandfly beach and the night visit to see the blue penguins at Albatross Centre.

As previous reviewers have pointed out breakfast is an event.

Mary and Patrick are the perfect hosts, the bedroom was delightful and well fitted out as was the bathroom, and the gardens are beautiful.

Mary gave us loads of helpful advice regarding the local sites to visit.

A lovely stay in an exceptional B&B.

We chose Portobello on the Otago Peninsula as a good base for visiting Dunedin and all there is to see on the peninsula itself. Staying at McCauley Glen B&B, with Mary and Patrick, we were not disappointed.

Set in beautiful gardens, the B&B has 2 rooms, one that can accommodate up to 4 people and another for 2 people, both on the ground floor. Ours was spacious and lovingly designed and had the benefit of a small service area with crockery and cutlery, kettle, microwave, toaster and fridge. Having eaten out in the day we found it very useful for preparing drinks and a snack in the evening.

But in fact the HUGE breakfasts prepared entirely by Mary proved enough to keep us and her other guests going until well into the afternoon. A fruit platter, homemade cereals, yogurts, a cold dish of muffins or pancakes with fruit, cream and iceceam were just the prelude to a vast array of cooked delights, accompanied by freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee or tea and finished off with homemade toast.

Mary and Pat were amiable and friendly hosts and were knowledgeable about the peninsula and its sights as well as about Dunedin. Mary very willingly booked for us to visit the yellow faced penguin reserve and the albatross reserve, as well as for us to visit Olveston House in Dunedin. And while we were out she did a load of washing for us too!

We can thoroughly recommend McCauley Glen and using Portobello as a base.
