Fairly nice hotel but a very poor visit for us. No valet parking (apparently the porter was away?) and after passing the manager our bags who said he would move the bags into our room, we had to drive a block over to a carpark building before walking back to the hotel. Luckily we caught the one part of the day that wasn’t raining. When we got back to the hotel we found our bags sitting unattended in the lobby right by the main entrance. Our electronics bag with MacBook, iPhones and various tech items was sitting right on the top. Feeling so blessed we didn’t lose the lot to some opportunist passing by.
Was told we could take our own bags up afterwards (had already guessed that one).
Rooms were fairly nice. Washing machine and dryer available which was very handy. Apparently has a bottle store and gym but we didn’t use these facilities. On a different day, had there been a full staff in attendance, maybe things would have been different, but as it happened I can’t say our visit was very satisfactory.

We were pleasantly surprised at how good this hotel was. The staff and restaurant were great. Recommend cushions for those cavernous lounges/chairs in the bar area. Unless you're tall, hard to get back support. The room was spacious and very comfortable (room 506), and the bed firm.

We stayed here for one night en route from a cruise on Doubtful Sound towards a morning ferry from Bluff for Stewart Island the following morning. Friendly welcome at reception and we were upgraded to the sixth floor into a spacious corner double room (#601) with an en-suite (spa bath, twin showers and basin), separated by a louvre-door partition from the rest of the bedroom. Very clean and had every amenity you’d expect. The hotel was full for the night but we wouldn’t have known it! It was very quiet and we had a very comfortable bed. Great view over Invercargill and very central to the city. Parking was easy, free and secure at a nearby parking building. We ate in the restaurant - steak for me and roast lamb for Mr S - very good, but perhaps a bit pricy... The next morning we had cooked breakfast - all was great. Would stay again.

Another enjoyable Invercargill weekend and our stay at the kelvin never fails to please . Super friendly staff at reception and the editors cut. The level one bar is great to relax in. The rooms are always well presented and typically large by modern standards. This is our 21st year of staying here... and we look forward to each of our next returns
... also suggest you join the vip club if you become regulars yourselves
