“Wanted to stay longer!”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

I loved this place so much. The staff were all so friendly and the place was very clean. I stayed 10 nights and Queenstown was almost the death of me (alcohol related).

I think the hostel experience is a lot about the people you meet and thankfully my two friends and I were lucky enough to be put in with another 4 guys in an 8 bed. We had one unlucky and unfriendly girl in with us. We had such a laugh and although we didn't have a balcony which would of been great we still had a great time. The hostel had small lockers in each room which could be improved by the addition of under-bed lockers but it wasn't an issue.

The hostel provided a light breakfast each morning and an evening meal served on a first come first served basis (start queuing around 17:45). Drinking was allowed in the common area between 4 and 9pm each evening. The obligatory count down could be heard each night at 9:59:50pm. Although you were not meant to drink in your rooms you could get away with it if you were smart.

The bars are all located near by, a must is Cowboys below nomads.

The kitchen was clean and always had staff cleaning up after the less tidy residents. It was a well maintained and equipped kitchen with clean towels always available. They could do with another fridge to ease the stuffing of the current fridges. My only issue would be one I have mentioned in previous write ups, PETS. I don't mind pets in hostels but I witnessed the dog from nomads come up to the kitchen and lick the clean plates under the counter which needless to say off putting. Other than this stay here. As for the noise issue I would have to say that Nomads take noise very seriously. I was on the phone outside my room at 9:30pm and was asked to move to the common area. I was talking low but after 9pm no gathering in the halls is allowed.

I must admit I have a pet peeve when it comes to families in hostels. Yes I know they are cheaper (Nomads was a little pricy but had it's benefits) but they are also called backpackers and that is a clue that it isn't going to be a 5 star retreat.

Nomads QT was my first hostel experience and now will be my place of stay whenever Im in QT! Loved it! The staff are super friendly...I stayed in a private room w/ensuite and the room quality was great! Loved the view of the mountains, shared balcony gave me the chance to meet new people from varying backgrounds, kitchen and common area we're both sweet areas to kick back in or score a light breaky before heading out into the day. Perfect position too, only a few minutes to the top of Shotover St. Overall, stoked with the experience and highly recommend a stay here!

Good location, clean facilities, large common areas. Bathrooms / showers nice, and kitchen large with all the cooking options needed. Would happily stay here again, and recommend for any traveler.

we were driving all day and worried about hostels closing before we got to Queenstown, not to worry they are open 24hrs :D they took one look at us and said we looked super tired and then found us a spot in a quiet part of the hostel in a dorm room which we had just to ourselves and still were charges for the cheaper bigger dorm room. clean, tidy, awesome beds, best night sleep of the whoolle trip. really quiet for us even though it was a Saturday night.

As a family group we travelled to Queenstown recently to attend a wedding and chose Nomads. It's a newish popular hostel situated in the heart of QT and apart from dormitories, it also provides for accommodation in a number of en-suite rooms, all with good facilities etc. No problems there, and the staff were very helpful. However our nightmare began at about 11pm on the Thursday night when a particular bar in the alleyway that connects Church Street with Searle Lane, throws open its doors and cranks up the mega watts of techno thump noise. Obviously Nomads management know about issue because they offer incoming guests earplugs...& we now know why.
If you are not a complete party animal and come back to sleep say about midnight...forget it!
The level of pumping techno beat pouring out from the offending bar at ground level is so high, that on the 3rd floor of Nomads, even behind the double glazed windows, ear plugs are useless. If you lean against the wall at the bed head end, it's vibrating with the sound level.
Horrendous is the only word to describe the impact of this "music" from down below. You just have zero chance of any sleep.
To give the hostel staff their due, on the second night of this nonsense, they phoned the local noise police who managed to shut down the volume...
To be fair, if you stay out late and come back to the hostel in the wee hours of the morning say 3am..you probably would miss this drama, but if you want a good nights sleep at a hostel and are thinking about Nomads..my advice..forget it...try somewhere else.

Room Tip: If you must stay in this hostel in an en-suite room, ask for the quietest room they have, and not on...
