Friendly service, amazing setting, delicious wine and mouth-watering food. What else could you ask for?
Tip: Josef Chromy is located between the airport and Launceston so if your flight gets in earlier than check in for your hotel, detour via Josef Chromy for lunch and a spot of wine tasting.

Our family arrived at the cellar door and were well greeted by Kaye and Domenic. They were very enthusiastic and proud to work for such a legendary company and family. We also were pleased to briefly meet Mr Josef Chromy which was a special moment for us. Having tasted the wines that are very familiar with us, we purchased a bottle of sparkling and order a sharing platter which was very enjoyable and tasty. Lovely setup, excellent service, and local knowledge. When we return to Tasmania, we will dine in the restaurant. The view and grounds are very picturesque.

We arrived at the grounds of Josef Chromy to find one of the most spectacular cellar doors and surrounding gardens we had seen up to that point in Tasmania.
Apron entering the cellar door we were met by a staff member that could not have been any ruder if she tried, with no one at the bar she proceeded to send us to a table away from the counter, after waiting close to 5 min she finally presented herself with a bottle in hand and the tasting glasses, she quickly poured very small tastings said the name of the wines with a breif description and quickly returned to washing glasses that seemed to be her no 1 priority for the afternoon.
Many attempts to engage her in conversation failed leaving us disappointed with the whole experience. Bad day?? not sure.. but very poor customer service... but at least she made sure the glasses got the thorough clean they must have needed!!!

Hi Darryl - thank you for your feedback. Your wine tasting experience falls well below our usual standard - please accept our apology. With a number of new staff on board for the high season, it would appear that we have not adequately trained every staff member in our expected standard procedure. This will be rectified immediately.
Kind Regards

We should have skipped this winery. Cellar door not sign posted at all so we inadvertently went the wrong way and were berated by staff. Tastings are stingy and only 5 wines to sample so not really worth the $20 we paid for the privilege ($5pp). I think it’s especially stingy that they still charged us for 2 tastings even though we purchased 2 bottles of wine. Staff not particularly friendly, tasting area lacked ambience. Plenty of wineries to choose from in this area, I recommend to skip this one.

Thank you for your feedback. There is only a single entrance to our building, unless guests follow the verandah around to the rear where our garden bar is located. As such, we have not previously identified a need to increase our signage. This will be reviewed in our next round of maintenance.

Like many wineries, we do charge for wine tastings. This charge is refundable on the purchase of a bottle, hence your tasting group of 4 were refunded 2 tastings for your 2 bottles. Five wines is the minimum number of wines available for taste. However, it is concerning that you did not receive a quality experience that represented value for money for yourself and your group. This will be raised with staff, with whom we will undertake refresher training in our visitor tasting experience.

Kind Regards
Josef Chromy Wines
