I stayed here for just a night at the end of a three-day tour of Tasmania.
The front-desk staff were exceptionally kind and professional.
The location is good, too -- right across from a nice park, and a 15-minute walk to the cool gorge. Launceston is a nice town with appealing 19th and early 20th century architecture.

A very typical backpacker hostel. Location is great, in the middle of the town within walking distance to restaurants n supermarkets.
And yes you have to pay $3.50 extra for linen n cover. The first night we didn't purchase them thinking it would be alright if we cover ourselves up with jackets n long pants but we are so wrong. We freeze though out the whole night n was so regretful not to pay $3.50.
Kitchen is clean in the morning, dirty by night. Still using old version stoves whereby you have to bring lighters or matchsticks to light up the stoves.
On sight parking free subject to availability (around 10 i think), if not just park along the street.

Hello Liting, thank you for reviewing Launceston Backpackers. We do recommend people hire blankets and there is a big sign in our office recommending this. We also hire sheets for people who want to do this. Our kitchen is cleaned by our staff 3/4 times each day. We apologize for it being dirty when you wanted to use it but we can guarantee you a staff member would have been in the kitchen at some point in the evening cleaning it. As you mentioned we do have a car park but we have 16 spaces.
We hope you enjoy the rest of your Tasmanian holiday.

I stayed here for a total of 6 nights on 2 separate occassions in a twin room on the first floor. The rooms are nice and big with 2 single beds and 4 powerpoints which is always a bonus when travelling. The kitchen is nice and big - although only 1 toaster and kettle - but it's very annoying that people don't wash and put away their own dishes. Close to Coles for buying supplies. I would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your review Natalie M, we are glad you enjoyed our facilities. Thanks for mentioning the toaster and kettle. We have had electricians look at this and because it is a one hundred year old building it is quite difficult to get extra power points from our switchboard down to the kitchen. Thanks for mentioning the dishes situation, the staff at the backpackers respond to this by cleaning the kitchen up to four or five times a day. Again thank you for taking time to review Launceston Backpackers.

We stayed one night in a dorm. It was clean and comfortable. The kitchen is big with everything inside for cooking. The location is good for walking around city. The price is cheap but then you have to pay extra everything.

Hello Alice W. thank you for your review. We are glad you liked our kitchen and clean comfortable dorms. Yes we do charge extra for the additional things people want because our bed prices are kept low. We charge a one off fee of $3.50 for people who want 2 fresh sheets and a blanket. We charge $1 per hour of WiFi but we usually bring the price down on this if people want more than two hours. We charge $3 to use the washing machine, $2 for the dryer. We hope you enjoy the rest of your Tasmanian trip.

We stayed for one night , it was clean and it's just your typical backpackers ... Location is very central .
We stayed on the bottom floor and you could hear everything , people walking around , yelling eg ...
Rooms are basic , mattress with a pillow .. Blankets are available for hire . We didn't have a power point in our room .

Thanks for your review Anniebeeton, yes we did have some rowdy guests the other night. Our night manager eventually heard them and told them to quieten down so apologizes for that. There are power points located in every room, please ask at the office next time and we can help show you where they are. Safe travelling.
