If at Doi Mae Salong, it is worth going to the Martyr's Memorial Hall and associated museum. The history of how the Chinese community arrived at this spot, and the intricate web of geopolitics involving Chinese, Burmese, Thais and Americans, is quite fascinating but there is not enough English captions in the museum to fully appreciate this history. The museum comprises mostly grainy photographs and only a few objects, such as guns.To gain most from the visit, it is worth doing some homework to learn about history of community.

The museum tells the history of the Chinese community of Mae Salong that left the Yunan province during the Mao & Chang Kai-Shek era and their exodus to northern Thailand where they settled finally in Mae Salong

This museum/memorial hall is worth a visit. It provides a good history of Mae Salong and an explanation of the Chinese history of this town. It is a stop worth an hour of your time.

Really enjoyed visiting this museum, and mae salong generally, as it was great to learn and almost forgotten and often untold piece of history. Totally worth paying 20 baht especially if you can read thai or chinese. Although there was some English background please note that it is still limited.

For those interested in the history of this fascinating region, the hall and attached museum are a wonderful way to learn more about the Chinese soldiers who settled in this region in the 1960s. Captions are (mostly) in Chinese and Thai with some English translations.
