Every once in a while a person ventures onto a restaurant which serves good food, but is so damned quirky.

So, as you enter, the strangeness sets in. The service is absolutely hopeless, the ancillaries (like doggy boxes that are issued to you upon request) or drinks are obtained by singing out or even walking down to the Kitchen. Yes, we expected the toilets and the service to be a problem after reading other TA reviews and it definitely was. So, just be patient and assertive. We did that and the result was good.

We went for the mixed Kebabs, Garlic Naan, Kulcha Naan and a third element (Number 12?). Good enough. A very tasty and filling meal. Again with the service, we had to go get servers ourselves. This is just the way this place does business. lol Very nice to see eccentricity is alive and well in Dandenong.

We came here on a Saturday night, and even though there were several customers, they were able to fit us in. Overall, our experience was okay but nothing that would make me go back.

THE GOOD
- the food was very good.
- The bakery looked like it had some nice food
- the bread was nice
- the place did look fairly busy, which I guess is a good sign.

THE BAD
- the service was TERRIBLE. We were ignored as we walked in and had to ring the bell to get served.
- the staff were not very friendly and seemed annoyed when we asked for something
- plates were practically thrown on the table as they were served. I'm sure they didn't mean it like that, but the staff looked so unhappy that it wasn't welcoming at all
- the banquet meals need a minimum of four people, unlike other Afghan restaurants
- they forgot our bread
- we asked for water, they forgot so we had to get it ourselves.

Lunch at this place today. Very good mixed kebabs (chicken, minced lamb and lamb cubes) with an enormous serve of bread and accompanied by yoghurt and chilli. Well worth trying if you like Afghan food.

So reading the other reviews, I agree, service is not fabulous (you have to get up and get your own drinks) and the toilet is disgusting (I did get locked in there too, so watch out for that) but! Food was delicious!! We have been here a few times, admittedly not for a couple of years, but had a hankering for some Afghan tonight. I think it may have changed owners somewhere is the last 2 years (yes it's been that long since we have been here)
Restaurant has had a few cosmetic changes, it's still run down, dirty and not very nice inside, but put that aside.
We have the mixed Kebob (lamb and chicken) an eggplant dish and a chicken dish (so sorry cannot think of the correct names for these!) and a garlic naan.
Food was delicious, portions were a good size and it was reasonably priced.
