Description: Built in 1780, it housed the Alpine dairy house and Zug’s schoolhouse for a long time. At the same time, naturally. Last summer, we respectfully restored the historic building and gave it a new lease of life: today, the Rote Wand Schualhus invites all those on the look-out for culinary delights in a class of their own to partake in a lesson on regional specialities second to none – in the form of the Rote Wand Jausestuba on the ground floor, the Chef’s Table and the Cookery Workshop on the top floor.

This was our 5th stay with our family . The place is still great: warm welcome, nice rooms, facilities with space (spa, sauna, etc). You really feel at home in a convenient and secure place. The location is convenient both for ski ( skilift close to hotel to start your day) and for nordic ski. Food is excellent ( but dangerous: you may take a few kg during your stay). A good choice in Lech.

If you make a trip to Zug, do stop for lunch at Schulhaus, a small restaurant attached to Rote Wand hotel. Food quality is good and service friendly. Portions sufficient, but not massive. Do try the roasted salmon with potato salad and the buttermilk pancakes with black elderflower compote; delicious!

The 12 course Chef’s Table experience at the Schualhus in Zug was one of the highlights of our two week ski vacation in Austria, and one of the best meals of our lives. The food in Austria is generally excellent, but we didn’t find much variety. However, the Chef’s table at the Schualhus served traditional Austrian ingredients in innovative, sumptuous preparations and presented them in the most unique and artistic way. My favorites included: a duck bun “slider”, a pork rib that was baked for 24 hours and then grilled over a special variety of coal and served with a dim sum dumpling wrapped in pastry made with a traditional Austrian flour, a Jerusalem artichoke baked in clay and served with apple and goat’s milk, the best chocolate malted milk imaginable and a mountain pine crème brulee served in a tin that originally housed a popular Austrian hand cream. Each course was expertly paired with excellent Austrian wines, and the Chef and the Sommelier gave engaging presentations about each course. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere led to many interesting conversations with the chefs, sommelier and other guests. Be sure to pace yourself. The servings are small, but with 12 courses, I wished I hadn’t eaten every last morsel of the first courses, so that I had more room for the last courses. Our group included two 18 year old boys and at the end of our trip, they named the Chef’s Table dinner at the Schualhus as the most memorable part of our vacation.

We spent a week here with the family.
Of course extremely expensive: Lech and vacation period. You need to swallow this. Friends had warned me that the place would be nouveau riche and Schickimicki but while there were some characters overall the atmosphere was friendly and unassuming. Mostly Families with kids as it was the school holidays - if you don't like action over dinner, go visit at another time. The kids club and the pool were a hit with our youngster. There is a ski rental and shop in the hotel cellar, the ski bus stops in front of the house (10minutes to Lech). Alternatively you can go up with the local Zug lift and avoid all crowds.
Food is a highlight, you need to do serious sport and workout not to leave several pounds heavier.
Service was very strong, personal never intrusive, really friendly.
A very well Run place.
