My partner and I drove about 20 minutes from our hotel to check out this place, and we were THRILLED. The servers and the chef (all women) were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and every single plate that came out was clearly made with equal parts love and deliciousness. We had the truffle sampler antipasti, I had roasted pumpkin and cod, he had the best veal fillet he had ever tasted, and we each had pasta as well. Of course, we got desserts and coffee, too. This is one of those rare places that I don't think you could go wrong ordering ANYTHING off of this menu. This town is tiny, but well worth the drive from anywhere in Italy. It also has the prettiest public park I have ever seen about three blocks away.

We ate here at the recommendation of the owner of our rental apt. It's relatively small, but seeing pictures above its bigger than we thought. It was pretty slow on Fri. Night but we arrived at opening time. We shared some spicy pasta and a pork steak with grilled fennel in a tomato sauce. We finished with some cantucci and vin santo. There was a small fire in a fireplace behind us. It was cozy and the food was quite good.

We arrived pretty late this noon. They did everthing to let us feel not welcome. Finally they asked to wait 15 min. Italian visitors got several tables without waiting. Being ignored is terrible..

We spent a week in San Giovanni d'Asso in a rental and had the pleasure of eating at this charming small restaurant on two occasions. Both times we had a delicious meal and enjoyed the kind service and great atmosphere. The restaurant inside is more atmospheric and cozy than is suggested by the exterior decor. Donatello cooks up terrific Tuscan dishes--our favorite being the chicken cacciatore--and yummy dolci (the pear and custard tart is wonderful!). The servers are very kind and attentive and the whole experience is lovely. We highly recommend!

If you happen to be in the area of San Giovanni d'Asso this is a great restaurant to visit. They are situated right on the main street and the chef and staff endeavor to offer great food and service. They succeed in both as we ate here twice during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. You will not be disappointed in the food and service and I highly recommend this restaurant.
