My husband and I have just had a fabulous 2 nights at the Hospedaria de Cuenca. The staff speak little English but are great on smiles and mime. The building is traditional style and very quirky with staircases seemingly leading everywhere. For an extra 5 euros per person we had an excellent breakfast - extremely good value.
Request a room with a view if you can. Ours had a small, high up window but a mini stair block had been provided so we could open/close it and look out at the stunning view. The room was a little damp but I think this is being sorted. It is an extremely old building after all. You do need to be able to cope with stairs - there are quite a few, although I think they have a couple of ground floor bedrooms the breakfast room is located down a couple of flights. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom lovely and new.
Cuenca is a wonderful place and you’re seriously missing out if you don’t stay in the old town.More
