This aptly named delight (the name means “enchanted hill”) is indeed atop a hill. The grounds are planted to attract wildlife. Birders will be truly enchanted, and in the morning when the grass is aflutter with butterflies so will you.
The colorful bungalows are basic and very private. Only one has AC. Soap is the sole amenity. But the showers are sublime — outdoor, very large, and filled with greenery. All have a “rain shower” shower head, good water pressure, and plenty of warm water. The rooms have fans and are built for breezes, so you won’t miss the AC. We appreciated the silence.
The lap pool is clean and surrounded by hammocks and lounge chairs in both sun and shade. The free wifi works everywhere and smoking is allowed. There is a gentle climb from the bungalows to the dining area, but no serious stairs. A band played one night that had everyone dancing — including the hotel’s friends and neighbors.
We found the food and hospitality excellent — one morning we even shared an excellent off-the-menu goat stew with the staff and owners. Those owners, Michelle and Michel, are English-speaking perfect hosts that provide everything from leaf baths to informed, entertaining, and not-in-the-guidebooks information about their region and all of Haiti.
