I stayed here in Jan of 2013 wrote a review stating the place is not what was expected. It's in a good location but the owners need better communication amongst themselves. I showed up and no one wanted to open the gate. The place has a pool, parking and a great cafe a few blocks away. It's 5-10 minutes to be beach. I had put photos in that review also but looks like everything was removed. As I stated before unless you've been here before and are a repeat customer you will be upset. And I believe most reviews are from friends or family in my opinion. The bathrooms are outdated, blinds have gaps and rooms are basic if not add ons. Our bathroom had a window into the second bedroom which was clearly built to accommodate another bedroom as the ceiling was beams and exposed wires.

Friendly owners, location to Old San Juan and beach, and kitchen with microwave make up for the lack of upkeep. We loved the place and will stay again. The bus is just down the street and goes to OSJ bus terminal.Nice to walk on beach and then back on street with a stop at Panaderia Espana!

Room Tip: Number 7 had no air conditioning when we were there but cross ventilation. We don't like AC.

I would agree with the other poor review on here. We usually try to find hotels on the cheaper side, but this is by far the worst one we have ever stayed at. From all the good reviews, I'm not sure if we just got a bad room or what. The faucet was falling off the sink the shower was about 2 feet wide by about 3 feet long, the air conditioner was on its last legs. We tried to turn on the 12" TV but didn't get anything. The whole front was some kind of louvered windows that you could here everything going on outside. There was a street light, right out the side window that kept the room light all night.

Very clean and quiet. Nice place to stay and sleep...like home. Next time I will choose El Patio again. :)) There's a Spanish Bakery ( Panaderia España) near the place, with good food, pastry, and wines. Try the caldo gallego soup!
