Booked lunch here are visiting a wedding fair at the Showground across the road. Was told they could not do 1pm, only 12.15pm and then the table would be needed again at 2.15pm. When we arrived we could see why - even at 12.15pm the car park was very full with lots of people already inside and outside. However it was nice to walk in and see a reserved table with our name on just inside the door, so we knew we were expected! Also nice and spacious - they hadn't crammed too many tables in despite obviously being a popular lunch spot. We had our dog with us and dogs are welcome.
Having read previous reviews about the quality of the Sunday lunch, we each ordered from the Sunday lunch menu - a half roast chicken, a roast beef and a roast lamb. All were deemed excellent - though I did wish I had another slice of beef on my plate, not just the 2 I was given as it was so good! Lots of crisp roast potatoes though, with a big yorkshire pudding, nice veg and plentiful gravy. We decided we should sample the desserts menu too, so shared a toffee apple crumble with custard and a gluten free chocolate orange cake with ice cream. Again both lovely.
Staff were friendly and accurate in their service despite being busy. The price of Sunday lunch was £12.75 which we thought was reasonable. Desserts were a little pricey at £6.50. We were generally impressed with the place and would happily eat here again. We could see why it was so busy and had two shifts for lunch bookings.

After a visit to Wakehurst Place we decided to pop in to somewhere for a spot of lunch. Reasonable amount of parking and outside seating. From the outside it looks like 2 cottages but inside is charming with wooden beams.

The food was very good and we thought very good value for money. It was really busy but the staff not only seemed happy but the service was brilliant.

Would we return if in the area ? Definatley.

Such a lovely pub with a warm atmosphere.

What makes this place special is the staff - friendly and helpful throughout - an inspiration to the hospitality industry.

The meals are interesting and different to the selection that you might get at similar establishments - we had tuna nicoise and a spicy chicken dish and mousse and sticky toffee pud to follow and they were all well cooked and presented. Beer and wine equally good.

All this within a pub bursting with character.
