This hotel, located in Old Town Square directly across from the Astronomical Clock, is a small wonder. Our accomodations included a full breakfast served in the bar, due to renovations underway during our stay. We were upgraded to the balcony suite overlooking the square, and could relax on cushiony furniture, sipping wine, while the crowds gathered below to see the hourly astronomical display and the trumpeteers from the highest tower. The 'room' itself was actually a living room, huge bedroom, balcony anterroom and 2 bathrooms, with gilt furniture and parquet floors. Wonderful energy, with nightly music, but very respectfully endning at 10 PM, the square provides a touchstone for the many meandering side streets leading to intimate restaurants and artistic venues. The rooftop restaurant has the absolute BEST 360* view of the entire city, reasonably priced, a good wine selection and friendly staff. I will go back every time I am lucky enough to be in Prague!

I booked this Hotel for our wedding anniversary. I have stayed in Prague many times and wanted to stay in U Prince for its location. When we arrived in the Hotel we were given an up grade to the Presidential Suite. This Suite consisted of 2 king size beds a Lounge a massive bathroom plus our own private terrace. We had a computer with full internet access for no extra cost. The breakfast which is included in the room rate was more than adequate for our needs. We could not fault the service or staff in any way and will be going back to the Hotel at Christmas. The Hotel postion can be a little bit noisy very early in the morning but that did not bother us in any way as Prague in know for this.

U Prince Hotel occupies a very old building, and is charmingly furnished in period style, making for great atmosphere. But be careful which room you get, and don't expect the staff to care if you are not happy - their universal response, heard often at reception with guests and on the phone, was "But we are fully booked; what do you expect us to do about it?"
The old building means all the rooms are different. On our way through Prague to Berlin, we called in to check what we would get, and were shown a very charming double room. Upon returning from Berlin, we were told we had been "upgraded" to a Junior Suite. This was a similar size room with a very tall ceiling, and internal windows overlooking reception, which occupies the old lightwell of the building. The bed is on a crudely-built mezzanine, over the bathroom. From here, it is possible to easily touch the ceiling, and of course the air is hot and stuffy. The AC unit is right alongside the bed, making it noisy and uncomfortable, whichever way you set it. The long-flight open timber stairs are a real safety hazard, especially if you need to use the bathroom during the night. Noise and smells rising from the reception and restaurant meant that we kept the windows closed (and the lights on). We spent two restless nights, including trying out the single day-bed below.
I pointed out the problems with the room when we checked in, only to be told, "But we are fully booked; what do you expect us to do about it?" The pretty young blonde receptionist repeated this over and over while I was trying to talk, until finally I asked if I could be allowed to speak. After this, she studiously examined her nails while I explained our concerns. We were offered another room, but warned it is very small. It turned out to be little more than a corridor squeezed under the roof pitch, with not enough room to sit up on the bed.
One last sour note occurred on check-out - the hotel participates in Prague's notorious taxi rip-offs. We were offered a taxi to the airport for 800CZK. When we pointed out that the correct fare is about 600, the staff immediately switched to a fixed price at 600. We rang a reputable cab company ourselves, and were charged 500CZK.
When paying for four star accommodation, you could at least expect the hotel to have your interests at heart! With hindsight, the answer to "What do you expect me to do?" should have been "Find me another hotel."

DO NOT EAT THERE.. The restaurant service is very bad, and the food is very poor quality. I were hospitalized for more than four days because of food poisoning. I suspect the staff to poison my food when I complained about my dinner portion was too small and I could not be satiated despite three of my friends had the same dishes but much larger.
