I was at balbin penzion on a business trip. First of all, an accessibility warning for disabled etc. There are quite a few stairs before you can access the elevator, elevator is very small, and takes you only to the fourth floor, whereas the hotel rooms are in the fifth and sixth floor. This didn't affect me personally. But, if you have a child stroller, are disabled and need to use a wheelchair, or are unable to climb the stairs for any reason, please don't consider this place.

Location of the hotel is quite good, Muzeum metro station was within 300m. The hotel room was clean and OK. Breakfast was not great, but OK. The only problem with the breakfast for me was that it was served only at 8:00, and did not always fit into my schedules.

But... The advertised price was 47€/night, while they charged 60€/night (I stayed five nights). The quality of the hotel does not match this 60€ price at all. The staff was blaming it on exchange rate (they were charging 31CZK/1€ while the actual rate was 25CZK).

The hotel website promises free dropping service to the airport. But when asked, they told me that the service was only available for people who directly booked through the hotel website, but not for those who booked through third party booking websites (Expedia). I thought this was especially unfair because they charged more than what they promised through Expedia.

Otherwise, the hotel was tidy, breakfast was OK, and the staff were friendly. If only the price was more fair.

This was probably the least enchanting place about Prague yet still a very good stay. Friendly staff and small breakfast included. BUT if you are disabled or for some reason cannot climb too many stairs this is NOT the option for you. Maybe a better plan for younger tourists with smaller budgets. Still we enjoyed the nearness to the train station and city centre.

Room Tip: NOT for ALL ages or the disabled.

Stayed here for 6 nights with a stag do, the hotel is set on top of apartments and there's a lift on the 1st floor to the hotel.

the staff were very helpful and patient considering we were a stag do. the reception shuts at 22:00 and every room has keys for the external doors for the night time.

location - 300m from wenceslas square, loads of bars locally - there's a strip club 10m away.

rooms - very very clean, new towels everyday.

wifi - yes

tv - yes

decor - needs updating but the beds are the best i've ever slept on.

overall much better than expected, would stay again, even with my family.

The first unpleasant experience we had was regarding the transportation from the airport. A week prior to our arrival in Prague I had two phone calls with a lady from pension Balbin. We booked the room via booking.com and we didn’t have an arranged transportation from the airport. Therefore, we asked the lady from the Balbin to book us a taxi from airport, which is supposed to cost around EUR 20. I sent two e-mails and called her to get confirmation but I didn’t. When we arrived at the airport, we spent more than half an hour trying to find someone with our names, but failed to. After that, we decided to go by the public transportation (the next cheapest option), as other taxi drivers charged EUR 35. Finally, when we arrived at pension the same lady that 'booked us the taxi' still wanted us to pay the taxi fare, even though the taxi failed to pick us up. She claimed that she called us, but actually she was dialing my office number. Later on, another man that works at Balbin calmed the situation down. Taxi drivers are prone to such frauds where they don't collect you at the airport, but still want to charge the fare and this seemed to me like one in cooperation with this lady. One should be aware of such deceits.
And now something about pension Balbin. The room we were staying in was clean and O.K. However, after our arrival, nobody came to clean the room in six days. Realistically, the pension is 2 stars, not 3. From the entrance from the street, you have about 25 steps to the elevator, and then from the elevator to the fourth floor 15 steps. For the aged and disabled people it is quite inconvenient. For two days the elevator was out of function. For my wife (she had a knee surgery) and myself (61 year-old) it was quite a challenge. The location is good, as it is only 10 minutes walk to the Wenceslav’s Square. All in all, for this price of EUR 60 for a double room, I believe you can find better accommodation.
