In terms of total experience, it's hard to imagine a place better than this. Reservations are a must. I understand that they are booked at least a month in advance for dinner. Entrance to the castle itself is free with a dinner reservation.
We were part of a very large party having dinner at the castle and they were able to accommodate us well. We were offered options in a set menu situation varied enough that everyone in our party was able to have something they enjoyed.
From the wines, to the amuse bouche, to the entrees, to the desserts, the food was beautifully presented and delicious.
Of course, a dinner in a castle is special. The view from this castle, however, is spectacular. While the castle is 1000 years old, the dining room is airy, light filled and modern.
Be prepared to encounter a busy parking situation. There is a gentleman directing traffic in the parking lot. Tell him you have restaurant reservations and he will help to find a spot. I don't know if the restaurant is handicapped accessible. One of our party had difficulty climbing the very long staircase from the parking lot and then again from the castle ground floor to the restaurant itself. Something to check on before going, if this may present a problem.
What a lovely experience it was. One of our best meals in Slovenia.
