Travelled as a group of four, celebrating birthdays. Trip given as a gift.
We arrived mid morning. Had read previous reviews re taxis at the airport and glad we had. We’re stopped at exit, offered a taxi to hotel for 14000 HUF. Declined and were then offered the fare for 9000! Went to taxi booth just outside terminal building, taxi 7000 HUF. We’re given slip with fare and the number of the taxi the make sure we were with correct firm. Arrived at hotel, check in very easy, staff polite and informative. Room well appointed, clean & modern, bathroom small but clean. Toiletries provided.
Had breakfast, not included, continental with freshly cooked eggs to your choice, more than enough to satisfy.
As we were only in Budapest for 4 days, we had a rough idea of where we wanted to go and what to see. We mainly walked but bus/trams frequent. One of our group has a minor mobility problem..lots of stairs..no real issue, just took it easy. On one occasion we needed a taxi, asked hotel to book. When we came down to wait, manager said as it was peak time, taxi firm could not guarantee taxi on time. We had booked River Cruise and had to be onboard by a set time. No problem, hotel manager offered to take us in his own car! What service. He was also great for telling you the best places to eat,how to get to some sites free of charge etc...just ask, I’m sure you will get the same info as we did, saved a lot of time. Evening river cruise was fab..however, not sure it was worth the expense of the dinner cruise..meal ok, not worth what it cost..do the cruise without.
Jewish quarter was an experience..it was worth the cost of entry to the synagogue, amazing building, very sad stories, guided tour in various languages available.
Be aware, if you intend to visit the parliament building, to enter at the cheaper cost, you need to prove you are an EU citizen with photographic ID. If not, the price more than doubles to 6000 HUF. We did not know this and were not willing to pay the higher amount.
We were led to believe Budapest was a cheap city to visit, I have to disagree, prices were on a par with the UK.
All in all, we had an amazing 4 days and will return to both this hotel and Budapest.

Room Tip: All rooms have AC/heating. Lift available. Quiet location.

Hotel Orion Varkert, Budapest. A small hotel on the Buda side, on a quiet street one block back from the Danube, half a block from a tram stop. It's about a 600 meter walk to the Chain Bridge and the funicular up to Buda Castle, and you pass a number of retaurants and coffee shops on the way. About a 300 meter walk the other direction to Elizabeth Bridge. You can walk across either to get to the central district on the Pest side, and the view is breathtaking, especially at night. The whole place was spotless and modern. Our room had a TV, wifi, and a small refrigerator. Trim and fixtures in our room were high quality. The windows can't be opened. Shower and a bathtub. The included breakfast was more than adequate,

Really impressed with the location of Hotel Orion Varkert, our room was a reasonable size, with a bath/ shower which was great to have the choice. Beds were also really comfortable!

Our breakfast was not included in our stay, so we had it 4/7 mornings.
We both felt it was quite pricey for what was available (about €8 each per day)
The selection was small and quite difficult to eat from as a vegan as the choices were: ham/cheese/eggs/yogurt/cereal/ bread.

The hotel owner was lovely and helpful, calling us a taxi if we needed one, letting us borrow extra towels for our visit to Rudas Baths. - My only criticism is he seems to be taking on too much for 1 person to manage E.G. cooking people’s breakfast orders whilst trying to sort something out over the phone, at the same time someone would be walking into the hotel to the reception desk!
All in all a positive experience.

Room is comfortable and new, service is great. Very well located too, you can very easily walk to the main tourist areas. Breakfast very basic but does its job, costs 8 euros. No room service (small hotel). Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were pleasantly surprised with how great the location was, how kind hearted the staff were and how nice the rooms were. Breakfast was really nice-the extras of freshly cooked eggs was a treat! Rooms are simple but spotless and nice and toasty warm when coming back from exploring. All attractions within walking distance, hop on hop off bus stop is at the top of the street. We had a great nights sleep each night and wasn't woken in the morning even though some of the rooms are being re-furbed. We cannot thank the staff for going out of their way to make us comfortable and going above in beyond, especially Szekeres Lajos and Baumann Karoly! Wonderful job guys we will be back!
