Liszt’s last home in Budapest, in the past five years of his life, was in the building of the Old Music Academy. As the founder and professor of the academy, he didn’t accept any payment but the apartment where his students could visit. The instruments, books and scores he used while staying in town were all donated to the academy, and enriched with further donations and purchases, the whole Liszt Collection is on show here. The Memorial Museum functions also as a research center, and come Saturday, as a venue of matinee concerts. Don’t miss the tree-day-long Liszt Festival celebrating the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth between October 21st and 23rd.

Small with only 3 rooms but you can see some Liszt pianos. From this flat, Liszt opened the windows on the Andrassy ave (classified world heritage) and all people was lestening him playing. This museum is in the old Academie, not to be confused with the Academy Liszt were Bartok used to teach.

What a great museum! In just a few rooms (where Liszt actually lived) a lifetime of F. Liszt is covered. Personal artifacts, scores, and unique instruments are on display.
We were particularly fortunate to have doctoral candidate/expert scholar on the composer in our group. Even without him, the experience would have been great. With him, Liszt came alive!

The Liszt museum is his converted apartment packed with instruments, books, and other personal objects that give a peak into his interesting life. We spent about one hour milling around. You really must do the audio guide...without it there is no information besides a one page biography they hand you when you walk in. The audio guide gives background on everything you are looking at and is necessary. A nice, short visit for classical music lovers and fans of Liszt.
