After a day of traversing around Vilnius and sightseeing, and after two days of eating stodgy Lithuanian food, a change was needed. It was not going to be my dinner, but at about 17:00-18:00 after having not eaten since an 11:00 brunch, I was getting exhausted and wanted a place to regroup and gather my thoughts over a beer and, incidentally, a pizza.
They had only just opened - which is remarkable, as I attempted to go back three times over the following few days and found it closed every single one. Maybe this place is only open Fridays and Saturdays, which seems odd for a relatively good pizza-pub restaurant; that is why it narrowly loses out on being a 4-star establishment in my eyes. It certainly is not open Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday at that.
The staff seemed to find the solo traveller wandering into their midst relatively amusing in the middle of the afternoon; I am not sure why. Yet they were friendly once I got talking to them, and the rest of the place was completely empty - people started coming in as I left though so it probably builds up in the evening. The price was about the high end of what one would expect to pay in the middle of Vilnius - so cheaper than Western Europe but not as cheap as you could get for a meal.
The menu has a decent pizza selection, and a nice range of beers both local and wider European. It was not difficult to choose on a pizza, and of course the cheap local beer was good enough for me. The food arrived fairly quickly, and as you can probably see from the pictures uplodaded it was absolutely covered with toppings!
Closer to American pizza than Italian is the only way to describe the food, but at that it was very good quality for American pizza and that was definitely needed at the time. The Greek option was what I had decided on: feta, rocket, ham, peppers, and jalapenos. It tasted very good, with a huge amount of very good quality feta. The ham was under the cheese and kept sliding off, and they obviously put something extra on it as well for it was too spicy to have only containted jalapenos. All in all, it was a great pizza, and I would still love another.
It was a bit much for the middle of the afternoon though, but no fear: they happily provided a takeaway box for me to take the last few slices back to my hostel with. After a pub crawl with my newly made friends later that night, it definitely was appreciated...
