Description: Paddy Whelan's - the first Irish pub in the Baltic's! Since 1995 we have been offering more than 50 beloved local and global beers and ciders, including the classic Irish Guinness, our own Užava, Brenguļi, Valmiermuiža and other beers, and many more. We also offer a wide range of foods, and because we never want to limit our taste buds, we have traditional Irish dishes, popular burgers and sandwiches, breakfast and lunch offers, popular Latvian foods for our local fans, and our pride and joy - homemade Indian foods at affordable prices! We are still one of the most popular venues in Rīga for live sports broadcasts, leisurely evenings, and a chance to meet local Latvians, local foreigners and guests of the city who have stopped by for a pint of beer, a glass of whiskey and a tasty meal. We are a member of the Latvian Association of Hotels and Restaurants, and we are delighted to help out in improving the hospitality environment in Rīga and throughout Latvia. No matter from where you come and no matter what you do on a daily basis, Paddy Whelan's will always welcome you. Come on in, have a seat, and enjoy a glass of beer. Maybe two.

Few tables outside, large place inside, including another terrace on back. Decided to drop by, when I saw their Guinness sign :) Our waitress was friendly, spoke good English and we even decided to have some snacks there(Garlic Rye Bread and Nachos). Overall nice little stop and it was nice to watch all that hustle and bustle around.

Such is the proliferation of Irish themed bars across Europe and elsewhere these days, there is a loose assumption among us Irish that travel abroad that they may provide some sort of home from home when we visit them. In fact, very few of them can boast any sort of Irish connectivity- apart from selling beer and whiskey and showing sports events - and are generally owned by locals or (so I am told) Russian mafiosi.
Nonetheless, I paid a visit to Paddy Whelan's early in the day during WC 2018 to watch the final rugby test between Ireland and Australia. Despite the pub having about 10 big TV screens, not one of them had the rugby on. A small handful of hungover Brits and Swedes - nursing hangovers- were watching reruns of inconsequential football games from the previous evening. Asked the bar staff - all locals - none of them had a clue about the rugby being on. Eventually found a Kiwi bar showing the rugby and ended up spending most of the weekend there.
I did go back to PW's to watch some of the football, and it is a good bar. Just not Irish!

Europe is full of these classic sports bars, not very special for Riga.. But we had a great time! Good value and good atmosphere. Watched the World Cup, England won 2-1. I won a free beer. Ate a tasty burger.

Went there twice 2nd time we asked if we could watch the Championship final playoff from Wembley. We were told the place was fully booked for the Champions League final 4 hours later. There were only about 20 people in the whole place and although the game we wanted to watch was being shown we were refused entry. We only stayed on our first visit for about 30 minutes the beers on offer were average my advice spend your money elsewhere where at least the customer is treated with some respect

Only visited for a drink at the bar and OK it was only 10 cents but the change should at least have been offered. Not impressed.
