Description: The origins of Kotay are in the spring of 2000, when its founder, at that time only a graduate from high school, loaded suitcases and moved his country from Latvia's coolness to Thailand. Already on the first day after arrival, I faced the extremes of the local culinary delicacy and spell, our hero promised himself that he would never be different from them. Never, never. She spent the next 12 years crossing Asia across crosses, and greed for exotic was finally pleased. It was time to satisfy the desire of Latvia. Already on the first day after returning, faced with the persistence and inertia of the Thai cuisine of the local dining establishments, our hero decided to fight against this culinary injustice. In summer 2012, the first Latvian authentic Thai cuisine restaurant Kotai was opened. Thanks to the authenticity of the ingredients in the dishes and the professionalism of the staff trained by the Thai cooks, the specialties offered by Kota really taste exactly as they should have been painted. These are sharp. They are gentle. They are charming. At the beginning of 2014, instead of enjoying the unique taste of Asian noodles, you never sat down and read this story. Order securely and we will bring!

Kungu iela is within the tourist area and many of the restaurants there offer traditional Latvian cuisine. While many of the restaurants manage this with decency and dignity, Kotai/Garden seems fake from the beginning to the very end.

The presence of an overly friendly greeter at the door and a list that included nearly all sorts of food, apart from pizza, should have told us enough about the authenticity of this place.

Nevertheless we entered the restaurant and ordered food and, as we were looking for traditional Latvian food, we choose dishes that were recommended on the list. The orders were placed, prosecco came and we sat happily waiting for out food to arrive. From then on the service was completely unprofessional. Dishes arrived separately, and one us got her main course while the others were still eating their starters. Wine we had ordered arrived only when inquired after. Some of the waiters spoke little english, and their behaviour left a lot to hope for.

The biggest disappoinment was the meat pot with mashed potatoes that was recommended as traditional Latvian dish. Instead of smooth, well and long cooked dish, we got something that seemed as if all the yesterday's leftovers had been hastily thrown in the pot and quickly heated up. Leftover potatoes had replaced the mash and vegetables were still al dente; the taste was ok, but the consistency definetely was not.

The only people I could recommend this restaurant for, are a large group of people with different and modest tastes; the list covers nearly everything

We were looking to try some traditional Latvian food & the girl out front was very helpful in making our decision so we gave Kotai Garden Restaurant a try. The interior is stylishly decorated & has a nice ambience with music quietly playing in the back ground. The girls waiting were very friendly, efficient & quickly took our order. For starters we had Pelekie Zirni (grey peas) & then for main we had Cukas Stilbs (Pork knuckle). Both dishes were delicious, beautifully presented & washed down with a pint of tasty Latvian lager......what's not to like?

This was a super place. We went looking for a "good" meal......but everything was booked.....so we stumbled into Kotai. It is not fancy; it is not lavish.....but the food and service were great.....and the meal cost 30 euro with a beer and a wine. but the food was very Latvian classic.....we loved this place, even though it was basic
