I spent a week in June at Casa Mario Y Damaris while I was in Trinidad studying Spanish. Mario and Damaris are wonderful hosts and very special people. They make you feel totally at home in their beautiful casa. The house has a beautiful gardens and the pleasure of eating a magnificent (and slightly over the top) breakfast under the mango trees while hummingbirds float by is immense. Mario is a great cook and makes the best Lobster dinners in Trinidad. They are both a great source of information about Trinidad and can set up tours, spanish lessons, bicycles--almost anything. The casa is located away from the Tourist centre (Plaza Mayor) of Trinidad and near to the square that is the heart of the everyday life of Trinidad. I would strongly recommend a stay here if you are going to Trinidad.

Stayed for two nights in Casa Mario y Damaris and it was our first stop on our Cuban journey. It proved to be a great first stop and I recommend this casa highly. In terms of Cuban Casas it's definitely one of the good ones. Also excellent value for money when you eat and drink in this casa.

The location is great, the building itself is a nice casa with a roof terrace and outdoor eating which was very nice. The room we stayed in was ok, beds provided good enough sleep, bathroom small but functional. Overall the room did its job, only down side was the noisy air conditioning unit.

The real highlight of this casa is Mario (the owner), his personality and great cooking. His cooking was probably some of the best we had in Cuba.
Our Spanish was limited to what is contained in the back of a lonely planet guide book but this did not stop Mario engaging with us and we plenty of craic with him through broken English and Spanish.

Overall Casa Mario y Damaris is a great place, and our experience was made by Mario who is a great host and a great character.

Stay here and if you've a bit of Spanish to talk with Mario your stay will be even better.

Thank you very much for your comment, thanks for everything, it is true that we should do something to rave at least English but Mario and Damaris are too old to learn, but still have someone to help as an interpreter when necessary while Mario will remain a real character to serve them when you come

To Mario and Damaris - i want to thank you for making us feeling welcome in your house. And thank you for working with us - and talking to us. We spend time working for 9 days in Trinidad, and it was so good to come back to your house to relax. To Mario - i really miss your fish dish.

Great ambience and reception. It is like being at home. We leave the house crying a little bit. I would like to meet again Mario and Damaris at Trinidad. The breakfast was just wonderful and the rooms very clean. Their son, expert in tourism, prepared us very interesting and fun journeys. Great dinners too.

Me and my friend did 3 weeks of traveling through Cuba.

All in all, we visited about 10 cities/towns and this Casa in Trinidad was actually the best by far!
The two hosts are very concerned and sincere, warm people who made us feel very welcome.

For example, when we told Mario that we wanted to go to the sea by bike, he immediately organized us bikes.. when we told him we didn't know where we were going to stay in the next town, he immediately organized a Casa there, as well a taxi to pick us up from the bus station.

And it was not only about the nice hosts, but also the room that made us feel very comfortable.
It was clean, neat and we even had a TV and a little fridge in there as well as a beautiful bathroom.

I can just say for myself that I am glad I stayed with these people, because they made me feel very welcome in a foreign country. Additionally, they were a great help with organizational stuff like getting bikes etc. .

I am glad that I can return the favor by giving them five "stars" here and hope that this will make many people want to visit their Casa!
