Owner description: Not just a park in the city, but a kind of leisurely museum, with a scattering of Civil War forts, a cemetery and a 19th-century mill within its bounds.

I took an easy walk from the Smithsonian National Zoo to Rock Creek Park and came across a jewel in the midst of Rock Creek Park--Pierce Mill. The mill is staffed by a ranger from the National Park Service who can provide interesting photos and background information about Rock Creek Park and the history of the mill. It is a small site, but rich with history.

In February, I stayed at the Marriott Wardman Park. The weather this time was great and I decided to exercise outside. I ran down the hill to Rock Creek path which allowed for a great 1.5 mile one way hike along the creek and Parkway. The views and trees in the canyon are great. The best part may be the bridges that go across it as well as the embassy areas around it. Anyways outside the Mall, this is probably the best place for you to exercise, especially when considering the proximity to your hotel.

When you're in Rock Creek Park, you genuinely forget that you're in the middle of DC. There are so many great trails for walking, running, and biking. Of course there's also the National Zoo if you're traveling with kids. It's also a beautiful drive if you're tired of looking at the same architecture, but it does back up during rush hour just like every other road in DC.

This huge park has great trails for all abilities. Run, jog, walk or bike the miles of paths and enjoy Mid Atlantic nature at its best. There is much greenery and the lovely babbling creek
