Owner description: Not just a park in the city, but a kind of leisurely museum, with a scattering of Civil War forts, a cemetery and a 19th-century mill within its bounds.

Indeed the Rock Creek Park is an amazing place to visit if you are staying in DC for any length of time. Concerts in the amphitheater, stables, or just a picnic. Drive through up to the Zoo, Caution that part od the drive may be closed for events or weekends.

Love, love, love Rock Creek Park. Always discovering new corners, new walks. It's beautiful in winter, in summer, in spring, in fall... Have seen bald eagles, beavers, and lots of deer, snakes. Love that they close off Beach Drive on Sundays

RCP has a lot to offer but keep in mind it is in an urban setting. Use common sense and don't run/hike with headphones, alone or after dark. A little street smarts will ensure that your visit will be memorable for all the right reasons!

We explore the park every time we are in DC and are constantly finding new things to see and do. There are trails, fitness resources, playgrounds for the children and beautiful scenery providing a green retreat in the middle of DC. Definitely worth exploring.

I took an easy walk from the Smithsonian National Zoo to Rock Creek Park and came across a jewel in the midst of Rock Creek Park--Pierce Mill. The mill is staffed by a ranger from the National Park Service who can provide interesting photos and background information about Rock Creek Park and the history of the mill. It is a small site, but rich with history.
