We visiting the Washington National Cathedral on a recent trip to DC. It was an incredible experience. We chose to walk by ourselves but their are tours provided. This is one of the Nation's largest Cathedrals and the architecture is incredible. Great Stained glass throughout and one of the largest organs I have ever seen.

What an absolutely gorgeous Cathedral. Stunning stained glass and gothic architecture. Take the backstage tour or do the stair climb for the most viewing possible. You can wander for hours. Take some time to enjoy the views of the city from the 7th floor observatory.

The Cathedral is a very beautiful place comparable with some of the Europe ones. The windows ara a work of art, but locate the "Space window" and if you see careful at the center of the top circle you will see a little capsule containing a moon fragment brought by the Astronauts of the Apollo 11. In the exterior you will see a lot of gargoyles (use binoculars for this) and try to locate the Darth Vader one!

What a surprise! The cathedral is huge and reminds one of the noteworthy European cathedrals, except that it has many more stained glass windows and they are exceptional as to colors. The marble floors have just finished being replaced after the earthquake of 6 years ago. Go to the tower for great views of DC. Take the free guided tours to learn the most about this wonderful place. The little building just across the street to the south is excellent for a quick lunch.

You can park your car underneath the cathedral. Tariff is in line with expensive Washington parking fees. You have to pay to access to the cathedral and the tour is included. It is worth taking the lift tto see the view over Washington and the rest of the cathedral is beautiful. It is a shame that you might end up paying full price for a visit while the cathedral is invaded by caterers preparing an evening event. You have to slalom between tables, caterers, etc to Perrin your visit
