The Woodward
Reviewed 3 August 2017

We spent one week at The Woodward at the end of July. We had a two bedroom apartment for a family of four. The apartment was clean and similar to a hotel. A full kitchen allowed us to prepare breakfast for ourselves before we left on adventures. We saved a ton of money on dining out and were able to only dine out once per day. There was a washer and dryer in the unit and detergent for two loads of wash. Easy walking distance to the White House, and walking distance from the Smithsonian buildings, this location is so perfect. Close to restaurants, a CVS, and the Metro. I recommend it!

Room Tip: From our room on the third floor, there were no views, but the rooftop has fantastic views.

Initially we booked through Interval World for the Newseum on Pennsylvania AV about 4 months before our departure date. 72 hours before our flight from LAX we receive a "Unwelcome" letter advising us we had been relocated to The Woodward. Based on other commentary here I guess we should be thankful we didn't show up early evening Saturday of a 3 day holiday weekend and find we had to walk uphill 12 blocks with our luggage to the new destination. The Bridgestreet folks just kept parroting there was "no room in the inn" an Interval with 24 hours of our departure contacted us with an offer of downgrade to a efficiency vs. the 1 Bed w/K we paid for or the like accommodations here. Not at all comparable, too far away from our family staying in Penn Q, noisy to the wee hours, a metro ride or long walks to and fro' the National Mall (our primary destination), and blah b blah. I say a bait and switch is to be expected to a lesser desirable property that likely has "low occupancy" to hike the $$ coming in or meet some goals set by management. A reservation has no bearing on what or where you may be staying and NO COMPENSATION WILL BE GIVEN for any costs, time or >>>> expenses you incur during the transition. Do yourself a favor and book through VRBO or at another reputable hospitality company that honors their commitments and values you as a patron.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere as you likely won't get what you paid for

This has more to do with Bridgestreet Global Hospitality than with the property itself. Three couples booked 3 units at City Center in Washington DC. Two couples arrived on April 7th to find that one had a room and the other was changed to another location 6 blocks away (Woodward) No advance warning/explanation of this change. The other party arrived on April 10th with confirmation in hand and unit # referenced to find that the unit was occupied.... and there was no alternate location in his name. (Mind you, these lodgings had been booked 2 months in advance and paid weeks before our arrival.) At this point only the on-call after hours agent was available. There was no solution until 2 hours later (7PM during our night tour of the monuments) with an alternate location more than a mile away. This is DC where travelers do not arrive by car. And now this would put everyone in different locations. This location was not acceptable so on his own he booked a room at the Marriott which was 2 blocks away, for more than twice the cost. This was during the Cherry Blossom Festival; which is why we booked 2 months in advance! Been working with management since the incident (6 months ago). In June the Vice President of Operations and Quality Assurance assured reimbursement for the difference in cost that was incurred for the last minute booking at the Marriott. At least 3 times we have heard "the check is in the mail". That has been the response to follow-up emails/phone calls that I have made to them. It has not shown up yet. I held off on this review giving them every opportunity to make good on their promise. Bottom line: not impressed with their business practices/ethics.

I had a great stay in the Woodward Building. Rooms were spacious and clean. The amenities in the room were similar to a hotel. You can't beat the location and the price. The staff was friendly, and communicative. Great find!!

Room Tip: Great View

I was travelling on business and my wife came along for a leisure trip, which I was able to join her for over the weekend. We chose the Woodward Building due to its proximity to the White House and the Washington Mall and we were not disappointed! We really didn't expect the roof terrace to provide such a fantastic view over the mall!

With easy access to local transport links but also within walking distance of all major attractions around the mall as well as to local shops and restaurants, this really is a fantastic location. Add to that the art deco frontage, concierge service, gym access, free wifi and the support of the Bridgestreet team and this is one cracking way to visit Washington....thanks Bridgestreet.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a view of the Washington Monument
