This is a fantastic hotel.  I have to admit, I was a bit alarmed at the price, but when you factor all that was included in the total cost, it's a fair price for an upscale hotel.  For all guests, the hotel offers baggage service to and from the dock (we saw many people carrying their luggage around the island until their check-in time), a delicious breakfast (no cheap-o waffles; they have bacon, sausage, egg bake, oatmeal, fruit, and a barista making fresh coffee/latte/cappuccino), and a wine & cheese happy hour in the afternoon (we're not drinkers, so we got our money's worth of cheese & toast).  We added boat fare to and from the island (2 adults, 1 child) for an even sweeter deal.  The hotel staff was fantastic.  Irvin grabbed our bags at the dock and suggested that we let the hotel staff know that we arrived (even though it was noon and the hotel check in time is 3pm).  I'm glad he said that because the front desk person (cannot remember her name) allowed us to check in early.  EARLY!  That was so nice, because it allowed us to change and get some extra beach time.  The evening front desk person, Ashley, was very friendly and made us feel at home (even providing tech support with our TV).  Colton was great with our little guy, making a him a very kid-friendly hot chocolate.  The room is small, but it is quiet - you cannot hear any of the horrible sounds coming from karaoke at Luau Larry's.  What's especially nice about the Pavilion is how central it is to most attractions on Avalon (not to mention that it's steps from the beach).  I can't tell you how convenient it was to be able to run to your hotel room to use the bathroom before moving on to the next tour, and avoiding the unpleasantness of public restrooms.  We definitely plan on returning.

I was originally booked into the Hotel Atwater - one of the sister properties of the Pavilion. HATED it there! Very small rooms. Very small bathrooms. Antiquated, etc... the Pavilion is the absolute opposite of that! Property was newer. Location was great. Staff was SUPER friendly and accommodating. And the location is perfect. You will not go wrong or have a bad stay at the Pavilion!

Staying at Pavilion is being front row center in Avalon. Right on beachfront, next to shops and restaurants, it's as convenient as can be. They transport luggage to and from ferry for no charge, they offer free breakfast and free wine and cheese in the late afternoon.
Our room was clean, modern, good control of light and dark, comfortable bed, no drawer space but good closet.
The hotel's outdoor space is large; lots of chaises and 4-person dining tables around the garden. The weather was terrific during our 4 nights here so we were comfortable spending hours outside here eating and lounging. I'd happily come back to this hotel on another visit.

I have visited Catalina many times over the years but this was my first stay at the Pavilion Hotel. In years past, I would walk by and think it looked a bit shabby. But this is no longer true. I chose to stay here with 5 other women because we needed a hotel that had rooms with 2 beds and they were offering a good package with boat tickets, museum admission, restaurant gift card and room for 2 nites. The hotel property is really lovely with a grass area, lots of plants, lounges, a fire pit and plenty of tables and chairs. We were pleasantly surprised at the good quality wine and cheese offered each evening. Breakfast was also delicious with especially great cappuccino..served to us with charm by Colette! In fact, all the staff were friendly and helpful and you can't beat the location! Beds, bath products were all great too...only suggestion would be to have a bit better water pressure in the shower.

Room Tip: go for a superior...you get a patio with great chairs

Never heard of this hotel until my travel agent made the recommendation.
I took her advise and booked it.
This hotel had far far exceeded my expectations.
The decor is current and fresh with a cool hip feel.
With all the room amenities you expect from a 5 star hotel.
The late afternoon wine and cheese was wonderful and inviting.
But the breakfast was over the top with everything you expect along with the best fresh coffee and fresh squeezed juices.
Not to mention you are on the Main Street with Pacific Ocean views and only steps from all the restaurants, shops and beach.
We are presently seating in there courtyard people watching while enjoying the wine and cheese.
I cannot imagine staying anywhere else on the island.
Friends will ask how our visit was to Catalina Island.
And The Pavilion Hotel made a great trip into a extraordinary trip.
And by the way, thank you for the use of the fan.
Thank you for a job well done.
