Bought this night stay through Groupon for a King room. Stayed on the 2nd floor which is street level. The hotel is an older large pink Victorian on a large hill that over looks Avalon bay. Although the rooms are older they are clean and the staff is very friendly. They have a lovey 6th floor deck with a breathtaking view! If you want a view from your room you must ask at booking! Avalon is not very big and the fun part is walking through town. I found it to be walking distance to everything, tour bus, casino, Descanso beach and the Vons grocery store. If luxury is your deal then this isn’t the hotel for you. If you want a nice clean room, a deck for a glass of wine available for all guests and coffee in the lobby in the morning the Hotel St. Lauren is a very nice place to hang your hat for the night.

The hotel is located a bit off the beaten path and up a pretty healthy hill. You'll have to be in good shape physically to make it down to the restaurant district and back. There is a Von's grocery store down the street. Although management appears to keep the premises clean, I would rate the ambience and appearance similar to what I would expect at a Motel 6. The view fro the 3rd or 6th floor terrace balconies is very nice. Not sure I would stay here when I come back to Catalina, although their pricing is better than most of their competition.

My husband and I went to Hotel St Lauren with a Groupon, and we are very, very thankful we didn’t pay more than around 100$ per night for our two-night stay. The staff was mostly nice (some more than others), but the room we had was dilapidated and extremely poorly maintained. The curtains had moth-holes, there was black mold in the bathroom (that they had attempted to paint over-poorly), there were badly-done patch jobs on the wall, and their futon looked like something out of a nightmare. The walls were paper-thin, so on our romantic anniversary getaway we had the joy of hearing screaming children from rooms on all adjoining sides. The tv shut off randomly (like it would restart every 4 minutes or so), and when we told the staff, they attempted to fix it, but it still didn’t work. That being said, the tv was also fuzzy (as in, poor quality screen). Anything made of metal had some sort of rust on it (handles near the shower, etc). The bed was uncomfortable at best, and only 2 flimsy pillows and an extremely thin comforter was provided for the bed.
It’s a historical building, and it has a wonderful view from the rooftop patio, but this place looks like it hasn’t been properly maintained in years. We will never return, and if you want to have a relaxing getaway and a good night’s rest, go elsewhere. Even at the Groupon rate, I felt robbed.

This hotel has descent size rooms, some of them have real great views of the mountains. The rooms are clean and nicely maintained.
The patio at 6th floor is the best part of the hotel, it gives an awesome view of the Ocean, mountains at both the sides and rest of the island. I would like to come back again to this hotel only for this view.
The too have a cloak room, if you want to roam around the hotel after your check out then can keep your luggage and collect later on, this is quite a very good option.

Staff was friendly and very helpful. Luggage Stowage area was a great benefit so we could move around town before we could checkin and after we checked out. Rooms were clean and functional, small but we did not spend much time in the room anyway. The 6th floor deck was great for early morning coffee and watching the sun rise and town come to life. Close to the waterfront and within walking distance from almost everything you want to do in Avalon. Would recommend the Hotel St. Lauren and will stay there again.
