I visited the area a few years ago with my sister but missed out on touring this hidden gem, as I so discovered. Even more so, they are completely DOG FRIENDLY!!! Major plus!

First things first, bring a camera!
My only regret was not capturing photos of the memories we made while up the Apalachicola river with Captain Richard. He was an extraordinary captain, very informative and very friendly. This river is breathtaking and the scenery is very relaxing. Not only that, but the exhibits in the museum are quite remarkable for such a quaint place. They have a civil war exhibit that is small but done incredibly well. Their wooden boat exhibits are absolutely gorgeous and they even have a school where you make your own boats!
The young ladies that were working made us feel very welcome.
It was such a warm and wonderful and knowledge-filled experience. Everyone there treated us like family. We will be back...and soon!

Thank Joanie H

The museum is a good presentation of the history of boating and fishing. A wooden boat building class was underway and we enjoyed a conversation with the participants and instructor.

We are major fans of maritime museums; never miss visiting one that's available. This one is small, but does an excellent job with simple displays and explanations of the maritime life in the area. One of the videos showing talked about their plans for future growth, including a larger building. They offer terrific boat tours of various lengths. Our guide was a retired oysterman, highly knowledgeable and a gifted spinner of yarns. This is a "don't miss" if you're in the area.

Great little museum on the waterfront, close to oyster plant. Lots of photos and write ups of early days in Apalachicola. Highly recommend. Donation only.
